Since 2010, The Walking Dead has been one of the most popular and enduring media franchises on television. The original series ran for 11 successful seasons and spawned six spinoffs, two of which are still on the air with some of the show's iconic characters. Devoted fans are definitely open to and hoping for even more spinoff series in the future, and there have even been teases of additional offshoots being in the works over the years.
The first Walking Dead spinoff series, Fear the Walking Dead, debuted in 2015 and proved to be the one with the most staying power, lasting for eight seasons. We have since gotten World Beyond, Tales of the Walking Dead, Dead City, Daryl Dixon, and The Ones Who Live, which have received varied reception from critics and fans alike. However, another spinoff series that was announced to be in development still hasn't hit our screens.
In 2023, news arrived that following the debut of Tales of the Walking Dead in 2022, AMC was developing another six-part short-form spinoff series that was tentatively titled More Tales of the Walking Dead. Scott M. Gimple, The Walking Dead universe's chief creative officer and mind behind Tales and World Beyond, was said to be behind the project. But it's been over two years since the show was originally announced... Is it still happening?

More Tales of the Walking Dead spinoff might not actually happen after lack of updates
AMC and Gimple haven't revealed the status of More Tales of the Walking Dead, but even The Hollywood Reporter questions whether the collection of shorts will ever materialize and what stories they could potentially tell. While spinoffs like Dead City and Daryl Dixon have continued to be renewed for new seasons, this particular spinoff hasn't received any updates.
Tales of the Walking Dead, the predecessor anthology series featuring six standalone episodes, wasn't renewed for a second season. Honestly, that would have been the most logical road to forge ahead rather than tacking "more" at the beginning and creating a whole new series. Some even imagined that More Tales could have been the second season.
Because AMC didn't move forward without Tales of the Walking Dead season 2 and More Tales of the Walking Dead seemingly remains in development limbo, one could assume that the latter just isn't happening and isn't a priority in the franchise. And it's a shame that More Tales might not happen since there was a lot of potential to further expand the universe.
The future of the franchise continues to be in question. It's significantly slowed down in recent years, and with Daryl Dixon ending with its fourth season next year, Dead City could potentially be the last remaining TWD series on the air, especially if it's renewed for season 4 after season 3. Right now seems like the most uncertain time for the franchise in its long history.
