It was a tough day when The Walking Dead finally reached its end. For more than a decade, the show was a constant presence in fans’ lives, bringing people together week after week to survive the apocalypse alongside its characters.
So when the final episode aired, it didn’t feel like a simple goodbye. It felt like closing a chapter of life. Yet instead of moving on completely, fans held on. Not to the walkers or the chaos, but to the people who brought that world to life. Even years later, Walking Dead fans still closely follow the cast wherever they go next.
And now, that familiar excitement is back once again, as a beloved star from the zombie series has landed a new role in a hit Prime Video series set to return for its highly anticipated fourth season soon!
Walking Dead star Danai Gurira joins the cast of Invincible season 4

We're not joking around, Walking Dead fans. It's really true that Danai Gurira has been cast in the upcoming Invincible season 4! News of her casting was announced yesterday after the official Invincible page on X shared a bunch of new photos from the fourth season that included her new character.
Gurira is best known for her iconic portrayal of Michonne on The Walking Dead. She joined the zombie series in its third season and exited midway through season 10. She would later return in the final season for a brief appearance. In 2024, AMC aired the spinoff series The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, in which Gurira reprised her role as Michonne. However, she hasn't returned to the franchise since then.
In fact, we haven't seen her in any new projects altogether. We have been hearing of her joining the cast of upcoming movies, though. And now we know that we can expect to hear her voice in Invincible season 4.

So, who exactly will Gurira be playing in the fourth season of the popular Prime Video superhero series? She will be voicing Universa, a mysterious and powerful alien whose origins and home planet are largely unknown. Armed with the formidable Staff of Leadership, Universa is on a mission to save her world. But her quest will inevitably bring her into conflict with Invincible and his allies.
As seen in the season 4 image above, Universa is locked in a fierce battle with Atom Eve. The fight doesn’t seem to be going in her favor, as Atom Eve lands a powerful punch to her face, sending blood spewing from her mouth. Unfortunately, it's unknown when in the fourth season this fight sequence will take place. However, we can't wait to see it play out!
A short clip of the fight scene is shown in the official Invincible season 4 trailer. It happens at the 1:44 mark. Check it out below!
Gurira isn't the first Walking Dead alumni to join the cast of Invincible. The animated series has become something of a reunion for former zombie apocalypse stars, including Ross Marquand, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Lauren Cohan, Michael Cudlitz, Lennie James, Sonequa Martin-Green, Khary Payton, Chad L. Coleman, and Cliff Curtis. Given that Steven Yeun, who played Glenn Rhee in The Walking Dead, stars in the leading role of Mark Grayson/Invincible, we can't wait to see him and Gurira reunite on-screen as well.
The Walking Dead comic book creator Robert Kirkman created Invincible. The superhero show is based on Kirkman’s hit comic book series of the same name, which follows teenager Mark Grayson as he inherits superpowers from his father, the most powerful superhero on Earth, and must navigate the challenges of balancing everyday life with his heroic responsibilities.
While an official release date has not yet been announced, Prime Video has set a March 2026 release for Invincible season 4. A fifth installment is also confirmed and in the works.
