For the first time in 12 years, Emily Kinney will star in an episode of The Walking Dead universe, and now, we have our first look at Kinney as Beth Greene in Dead City season 3.

After the latest episode of Dead City aired on Aug. 23, AMC shared the teaser trailer for episode 6, which arrives on Sunday, Aug. 30. In the trailer, we see Kinney return as Beth Greene, Maggie's sister.

You're probably wondering how Beth fits into this story, so let's get into it before we explain what happened in the teaser. AMC hasn't released the trailer yet on social media, but as soon as the network does, we'll add it to this story. For now, you can watch the trailer for Beth's episode of Dead City season 3 here.

How is Beth returning in The Walking Dead: Dead City?

We learned Kinney was returning as Beth last year when Dead City season 3 was filming. We didn't know, though, how the show was going to introduce a character killed many years before into the story.

Then, at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Kinney's return was confirmed during the Dead City panel. It was also revealed that Kinney will be in an alternate history episode, starring alongside Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, that explores what their life would have been like if the outbreak of the Wildfire virus never happened.

In the trailer, Beth, guitar hanging off her back, meets Maggie in Central Park in New York City. Beth is holding a coffee cup, and it looks like they're about to catch up like sisters would.

It's a very brief look at the episode and at Kinney playing Beth for the first time in more than a decade. I know that's going to be a big deal for a lot of Walking Dead fans, especially fans of Beth.

There are few Walking Dead deaths as heartbreaking as Beth's death. It was such a horrible surprise that the writers and creative team of The Walking Dead had when Beth was killed by Dawn Learner in season 5 episode 8, "Coda." The hostage deal had already been worked out when Dawn changed the deal and wanted Noah, too. Then, Beth made a bold move and stabbed Dawn.

Dawn shot Beth in the head, killing her. Daryl, then, killed Dawn, and it nearly started a shootout, but both sides stopped.

It's definitely going to be an emotional episode of Dead City when Beth returns and has another couple of scenes with Maggie. There's still so much that we don't know about the episode, like how it's going to happen, how it will play out, and just how big of a role Beth will have. I can't imagine it's going to be a massive, massive role, but we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Watch The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 episode 6 on Sunday, Aug. 30, on AMC and AMC+. Stay tuned for more news about Kinney's return to The Walking Dead universe.
