Chandler Riggs is best known for his role as Carl Grimes in seasons 1 - 8 of AMC's apocalyptic series The Walking Dead.  Variety reports that Riggs' next project, a holiday film titled Breakup Season, has been picked up for distribution by Buffalo8.

In 2023, Riggs was announced for the Christmas dramedy Breakup Season, the feature debut of H. Nelson Tracey, known for his short films Conspiracy Party and Out of Focus. Riggs stars opposite Samantha Isler (Captain Fantastic, Molly’s Game) in this independent movie filmed in La Grande, Oregon. Additional cast includes James Urbaniak (Oppenheimer, The Fabelmans), Brook Hogan (Glow), Carly Stewart (Fragile.com), and Jacob Wysocki (Unfriended, Pitch Perfect).

According to Variety the deal was brokered by Buffalo 8’s director of distribution and acquisitions Jacob Silvera and Static Films’ co-founder and producer Stephen Mastrocola.

Riggs plays Ben, an out-of-work 20-something who travels to his hometown in Oregon for the holidays, accompanied by his girlfriend Cassie (Isler). After a late-night fight leads to their breakup, Cassie desires to return home. The remote location, snowstorm, and chaotic holiday travel prevent her from leaving, which finds her "celebrating" the holidays with her ex's family.

"Funny, dramatic, and bittersweet in equal measure. Breakup Season is an authentic look at early 20s love and heartbreak. Subverting traditional holiday conventions with a more grounded and relatable approach than typical holiday fare, the film explores the topics of family and breakups with sincerity."

Check out Riggs in the trailer for Breakup Season below. The film will be released in select theaters, including Los Angeles, Tulsa, Portland, Oklahoma City and more on November 15th. It will be available via VOD everywhere in the U.S. on December 6th.

Riggs will also star in a western, Florida Wild, which also stars Lee Majors, Nancy Stafford, and Mira Sorvino. Set in 1880, the story follows the Prescotts, who desire a new life and make the move from Georgia to Florida. This movie will be released in 2025.
