You might only have a few months left to watch the best Walking Dead spinoff series on Netflix.
Fear the Walking Dead is scheduled to leave Netflix on Aug. 19, 2026, according to a report from What's on Netflix.
All eight seasons and 113 episodes of Fear the Walking Dead are currently streaming on Netflix and have been since they were added to the streaming service in August 2024. Before that, Fear the Walking Dead had been available to stream on AMC+ and Hulu since the series premiere on Aug. 23, 2015. The show just celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the premiere last August.
Fear the Walking Dead leaving Netflix in August is far from a certainty, though. There were reports that Fear the Walking Dead would be leaving Netflix last August, too. It appears that Netflix is only licensing the rights to the series for a year-ish at a time. So, there's a chance that Netflix and AMC could work out a deal to license Fear the Walking Dead for another year, or a multiple-year agreement potentially, if they so choose.
We see this happen with a lot of shows. It looks like they're about to leave Netflix, and then, right at the last minute, Netflix works out a deal to keep the show on their platform, so I would wait until we hear from Netflix, or another streaming service, directly until we know for sure if Fear the Walking Dead is leaving.
Unfortunately, it's also not that simple with The Walking Dead right now because AMC has some big plans for the future of the original series, and it could affect Fear the Walking Dead's streaming home.
For the first time ever, The Walking Dead, the original series, could be leaving Netflix. The show has been streaming on Netflix for almost 15 years, but the licensing rights for The Walking Dead are up soon.
AMC Global Media CEO Kristin Dolan revealed recently that there are multiple bidders for the rights to The Walking Dead. Conversations are ongoing, as of right now, and it's unclear whether or not Netflix is among the bidders.
Here's what Dolan said during an earnings call on May 8, via Deadline:
"We’re really looking at every scenario. There’s a variety of ways to look at it. We definitely feel it’s important to keep some of the content for ourselves co-exclusively, so we’re emphasizing the fact that we’re looking predominantly a co-exclusive deals, but there are some very large and enthusiastic partners in the bidding process right now. So, we’re really looking at any variety of constructs, but the key thing for us is co-exclusivity.”
If it makes sense, there's a chance we could see another streaming service step in and secure the rights to The Walking Dead, and it's possible that the other Walking Dead spinoffs, including Fear the Walking Dead, could be part of a larger deal.
Whether that deal exists or not remains to be seen. There hasn't been much movement since Dolan's comments in early May.
We'll continue to monitor the situation with Fear the Walking Dead on Netflix. At the very least, you'll be able to stream Fear the Walking Dead on Netflix until Aug. 19.
In addition to Fear the Walking Dead, you can also watch The Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and The Walking Dead: Dead City on Netflix, as well. The other spinoffs are available to stream on AMC+.
