Jon Bernthal is a man of many faces. He took over the small screen as Shane Walsh in two seasons of The Walking Dead and has also been making TV history by portraying the Punisher in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The iconic Marvel antihero recently made his long-awaited comeback during the events of Daredevil: Born Again season 1 and starred in his own standalone Disney+ special presentation courtesy of The Punisher: One Last Kill. Now, this iteration of Frank Castle is about to do what he hadn't done before, which is appear on the big screen.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to unite many different characters from every corner of the Marvel universe. The wall-crawler will not only join forces with Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle but will also cross paths with Mark Ruffalo's Hulk. Furthermore, it has been heavily rumored that Sadie Sink's mystery character will turn out to be none other than Jean Grey. With so many heroes coming together in one single film, the whole world is eager to see what Marvel has in store. This has resulted in impressive presales numbers that have not been seen in five years.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day scores the best first-day presales in five years
As reported by Deadline, Spider-Man: Brand New Day just broke the record for having the best first-day presales in five years, a big milestone previously held by its predecessor, Spider-Man: No Way Home. Furthermore, the wall-crawler's upcoming adventure has the fourth-largest presale of all time for any movie.
According to Global Box Office, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already grossed over $40 million in domestic presales. At this rate, the film is set to earn over $250 million during its opening weekend at the domestic box office alone. To put into perspective how impressive that number is, No Way Home earned $260 million domestically during its opening weekend, and that was with the rumors that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire's versions of Spider-Man would be back in the mix.
The demand to watch Spider-Man: Brand New Day was so high that many users reportedly had issues securing their tickets. Entire showings are already sold out, while there are big queues at Fandango and AMC. As if that wasn't enough, some sites even crashed. It's still early days, but it isn't far-fetched to say that Spidey has swung into new heights.
One of the most important aspects of Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be the relationship between the friendly neighborhood hero and Jon Bernthal's Punisher. During an interview with Collider, Tom Holland indicated that the character's dynamic is one of his favorite aspects of the film as a whole:
"I think one of my favorite aspects of this new film is the relationship between The Punisher and Spider-Man. It's no secret that I absolutely love Jon Bernthal, and sharing the screen with him and building this new onscreen relationship was so fun. What is in the film is very different to what was on the page, and I'm so grateful to Destin for giving us the freedom to play with it and create something really special. I wouldn't be surprised if Spidey and the Punisher become a recurring duo."
Audiences are used to watching the Punisher in R-rated projects, taking names in the most violent ways possible. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see how the character fares in a PG-13 movie where he won't be able to be as explosive as usual. That being said, it seems director Destin Daniel Cretton managed to find a way to strike the perfect balance between Frank's personality and a family-friendly Spider-Man adventure, and we can't wait to see how it all pans out.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released on July 31, 2026.
