AMC's beloved Walking Dead franchise has gifted audiences with plenty of iconic moments over the years. It's impossible to list all of them because we're talking about a decade and a half of pure unadulterated entertainment here, but to list just a few: We have the iconic pilot episode, Carol's epic destruction of Terminus to save her friends, Negan's betrayal of Alpha, and Hershel's legendary "unlimited ammo" moment when the farm went down.
We still get plenty of those epic, awesome moments in the ongoing spinoffs from the franchise. Daryl Dixon allows Daryl and Carol to bring their badassery to Europe while Dead City has seen Maggie and Negan attempt to contend with the dangers of the zombie apocalypse in New York City.
There isn't much that the TWD Universe hasn't done. And yet, it seems like the spinoffs are attempting to ensure it tackles some of those remaining storylines. It also looked like Daryl Dixon was going to do something that fans have been wondering if the franchise would for years. However, now it seems that won't be the case after all.
New The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 stills tease Carol and Antonio romance, suggesting Daryl and Carol won't get together
AMC has unveiled new stills from the next episode of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3. Titled "Contrabandos", the upcoming sixth episode of the season will see Daryl make his way to Barcelona to track down Justina after she was taken to El Alcazar. However, the stills give us a glimpse at the other plot of the episode, which focuses on Carol and Antonio and, from just these stills alone, it looks like sparks may still be flying.
The photos see Carol seemingly learning Spanish from a handbook, with Antonio by her side (teaching her, perhaps?), and it's clear that there is a connection between them. Carol, still in her newfound hopeful era, is beaming as she looks at the man beside her. Antonio, meanwhile, looks at her intensely whenever she isn't looking at him. Yep, there's definitely some chemistry there.

It was clear from the first trailer for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 that Carol and Antonio were destined to at least feel something for each other, with Melissa McBride alluding to a potential romance between the pair at San Diego Comic-Con. Whenever they first crossed paths in the show, it was clear that there was chemistry between them.
That being said, the show completely caught fans off-guard when its fourth episode, "La Justicia Fronteriza", finally addressed the long-standing chemistry between Daryl and Carol. Valentina assumed that the two were together, prompting some awkwardly fun responses from them. It also received a mixed response from fans as, 15 years in without a single reference to it, they had all assumed that the TWD Universe was simply planning on ignoring it. But this reference made the Caryl shippers very happy as it suggested that the door was still open for a romance between the pair all these years later.

And yet, it appears that Daryl Dixon is continuing to pursue a Carol and Antonio romance just two episodes later. Does this rule out a Caryl romance down the line? Absolutely not. The goal is for the pair of beloved heroes to make their way back to Alexandria and the Commonwealth in the US, so it's still on the table if the writers wish to tell that story, but for the time being it appears that Carol and Antonio are going to find love.
If Carol does decide to return home, however, where does that leave her new potential romance? We'll have to wait and see.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 is now airing weekly on AMC and streaming on AMC+.
