If you're a fan of The Walking Dead franchise, then you're counting down the days until Daryl Dixon season 3 makes its premiere on Sept. 7. It's by far the best spinoff the universe has had to offer so far, and the anticipation for the latest season looks to push the series even further in that "best" category. Once again, the spinoff takes its characters to new heights, changing the game all over again.
Daryl Dixon season 3 takes Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa McBride) to Spain as they continue their long and trying journey to make their way back home. However, their efforts to reunite with their loved ones produces more challenges, new friends, and formidable enemies in the wake of the Walker apocalypse's global impacts. And their journey won't end this season.
As we're eagerly anticipating what season 3 will have in store for Daryl and Carol, especially since season 2 was met with less enthusiasm from fans compared to season 1, we're keeping tabs on the teases the cast and crew have shared. According to McBride, something's going to happen in the penultimate season that we definitely didn't see coming.
Carol sees the world 'in a different way' in Daryl Dixon season 3
In a new behind the scenes featurette shared on YouTube about Daryl Dixon season 3, the cast and crew provide some insight into the inspiration behind the storytelling for the season. Within the BTS look at season 3, there are a handful of new clips, including one of Carol boldly sharing her opinion on an "unthinkable" occurrence for "any parent." What could this "unthinkable" twist be?
Following the season 2 finale, which found Daryl and Carol having to make some difficult choices and losing people that had become important to specifically Daryl. Those experiences causes another layer of grief for the characters, which they will still be working through in season 3, even though they're in a completely new environment with a different set of circumstances.
"Coming out of the tunnel and having that experience, she's seeing the world in a different way," McBride teased about Carol's mindset in Daryl Dixon season 3. "[Daryl and Carol] have nothing to lose. They have nothing except each other... The wildest part of bringing Daryl and Carol to Spain is that Daryl and Carol are in Spain."
They have been through a lot, but it seems like there won't be a lot of time to process their most recent experiences once they arrive in Spain. Based on the behind the scenes video and the teases shared by McBride and Reedus, this could be the strongest season of the spinoff. I mean, it looks amazing and full of new imagery, culture, and (of course) unthinkable plot twists.
According to the video, one of the major themes of season 3 is love in the apocalypse. There's a Romeo and Juliet kind of scenario that plays out between two new characters, and McBride shared a warning to fans: "It's a sad storyline." As multiple relationships are explored in the season, you would expect love to bring some hope, but given the state of the world, even love isn't always a light in the darkness.
Daryl Dixon season 3 premieres Sunday, Sept. 7 on AMC.
