Syfy premiered its latest series, Revival, on June 12. The eight-part series is based on the same-titled comic series by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton, and Walking Dead alum Steven Ogg stars in a recurring role.
The series is set in a rural area of Wausau, Wisconsin, a town where, one day, all the citizens who have recently died suddenly come back to life. And although many have compared it to The Walking Dead, these undead are nothing like zombies. The "revived" appear to be as they were before their deaths.
Ogg portrays Blaine Abel, a man who believes that Revival Day is his divine calling. Raised by a fire-and-brimstone pastor, Abel raises a militia fueled by fear and chaos that comes against the Revivers. The actor initially shared the news via social media, stating, "Grateful/excited for this REVIVAL and the opportunity to play with this lovely cast and crew!" Ogg stars alongside Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen.
Gia Sandhu, Katharine King So, Maia Jae Bastidas, Nathan Dales, Mark Little, Glen Gould, Lara Jean Chorostecki, and Conrad Coates all appear in recurring roles.
Scrofano, who is known for her roles in Letterkenny and Ready or Not, portrays single mother, Deputy Dana Cypress, who is thrown into the middle of the confusion and finds herself investigating a brutal murder. Every citizen, alive or undead, is a suspect.
Showrunners Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce are the creators with Blue Ice Pictures and Hemmings Films producing. Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, Samantha Levine, Daniel March, Melanie Scrofano, Greg Hemmings, and Stephen Foster are executive producing.
Revival releases new episodes weekly and has received favorable reviews. Check out the trailer below.
