Characters who definitely won't be back in The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead: Dead City premiered on AMC and AMC+ in the summer of 2023. The first season was met with rave reviews and AMC quickly renewed the series. The debut season's finale set up several storylines to continue into the upcoming season. Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will return, as will several other new characters. But there are many other characters introduced in season 1 who won't be returning.
Maggie's son Hershel (Logan Kim) will also return as he was rescued after being abducted. Maggie made a deal with The Croat (Željko Ivanek), a former member of Negan's Saviors, who took Hershel and wanted Negan in return. Maggie betrayed Negan and made the exchange. The Croat also survived and introduced Negan to The Dama (Lisa Emery), the real person in charge of things in Manhattan. After learning how well he managed his Saviors, she wants Negan to join forces with her to take over the rest of Manhattan.
Ginny (Mahina Napoleon) will also return in season 2 as she was returned to The Bricks, Maggie's new community, after learning that Negan, a man she trusted, was responsible for her father's death. It is difficult to imagine her next steps, but remaining at the Bricks is probably not one of them. Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles) has found himself in a tight spot after lying to the leaders of New Babylon about killing Negan. The leaders are interested in The Croat's methane production, which will likely lead them back to Manhattan, where they will encounter Negan.
