Actress and playwright Danai Gurira is well known for the roles she has played during her career and for her Tony Award-nominated Broadway play Eclipsed. News Day reports that The New African magazine recently published its annual list of Influential Africans for 2023 and has included Gurira.
The publication recognizes the achievements and contributions of Africans who have positively impacted the continent and world. The 100 Most Influential Africans of 2023 is published as a special edition of the magazine which highlights the achievements of members on this list, which includes "politicians, entrepreneurs, industrialists, environmentalists, creatives, scientists, educators, and sports personalities among others considered to have demonstrated excellence, innovation, leadership, resilience, and vision in their respective domains."
She is recognized for portraying Okoye in the superhero movies Black Panther (2018) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) and as co-founder and executive artistic director of Almasi, a Zimbabwean-American drama arts collaborative organization. Her career is characterized by her advocacy for social justice and women's rights, in addition to her contributions to the entertainment industry.

Danai Gurira returns to The Walking Dead universe
In February 2024, Gurira will once again portray Michonne in The Walking Dead universe. The new spinoff series, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, will continue Michonne's story as she has been searching for Rick (Andrew Lincoln), her true love, all these years. Rick, in turn, has also been trying to find a way back to his family; neither one has ever given up hope of reuniting.
