Actor and comedian Daryl "Chill" Mitchell is well known for his roles in The John Larroquette Show, Ed, Galaxy Quest, NCIS: New Orleans, and as English teacher Mr. Morgan in 10 Things I Hate About You. Walking Dead universe fans know him as Wendell, brother to Mo Collins Sarah in the first spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead. Variety reports that Mitchell has been cast in an ABC pilot for the comedy Shifting Gears.

Originally ordered by ABC in March, Shifting Gears is a mutli-cam comedy starring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings with recently announced Mitchell and Froy Gutierrez (MTV's Teen Wolf). The series is directed by John Pasquin, whose producing debut was with the Tim Allen led Home Improvements and has collaborated with Allen The Santa Clause, Jungle 2 Jungle, and Joe Somebody.

The logline for the series reads: “Matt (Allen) is the stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop. When Matt’s estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) and her teenage kids move into his house, the real restoration begins."

Mitchell will portray a character named Ed who is a former Marine who is a mechanic in Ed's shop and "work husband" of Frankie, who has yet to be cast. Gutierrez will portray NIck, Matt's son and younger brother of Riley, who is a game coder but paused his career to help his father in the shop.

Mitchell portayed Wendell in Fear the Walking Dead beginning in season 4. He was introduced with Collins Sarah, his adoptive sister. The series ended its eight-season run in 2023, and as far as I am concerned, these two characters got a bad rap; you can read my thoughts on that here and here.

He also portrayed Patton Plame in seven seasons of NCIS: New Orleans and was a main cast in Brothers, a comedy series starring Michael Strahan, Carl Weathers, and CCH Pounder.
His fans know him well as Eli Goggins in seasons 3 and 4 of the NBC comedy Ed and as Leo Michaels in the NBC comedy Veronica's Closet.

Memorial Day weekend 2024, Mitchell will appear at the annual The Camp fan event in Peachtree City, Georgia. He will be a available to sign autographs, photo ops, a panel guest, and host a Fear the Walking Dead Happy Hour with Collins. All the information for the event can be found here.
