By Renee Hansen
Austin Amelio fans will be excited to learn that the Homme summer/autumn 2024 edition features Amelio on the cover. The issue includes an interview with the actor, who is also an avid skateboarder. Amelio is well known for his portrayal of Dwight in The Walking Dead and the first spinoff, Fear the Walking Dead. This summer, he will star in the new action comedy Hit Man.
The new film, from Slacker and Dazed & Confused creator Richard Linklater, is based on a true story chronicled in a Texas Monthly article by Skip Hollandsworth. Linklater partnered with Glen Powell, who also stars, to write the screenplay. The film circulated film festivals, where it was picked up by Netflix for $20 million and will be released in theaters on May 24, followed by its Netflix debut on June 7.
Hit Man stars Powell as Gary Johnson, professor and tech guru turned undercover mole. He is joined by Adria Arjona as Maddy Masters, Gary's love interest and Amelio portrays Jasper, an undercover cop. Additional cast includes Retta, Sanjay Rao, Evan Holtzman, Molly Bernard, and Mike Markoff.

Amelio portrayed Dwight in The Walking Dead universe during seasons 6-8 of the main series and crossed over to the Fear the Walking Dead storyline during the fifth season of that series. His role as Dwight ended with the eighth and final season of Fear TWD in 2023. One significant highlight occurred during season 6 of Fear TWD; Amelio's son joined the cast for one episode, "In Dreams." His real son portrayed his on-screen son in a dream sequence.
Hit Man isn't the first movie Amelio stars in with Glen Powell. In 2016, they were featured in the teen comedy Everybody Wants Some with Blake Jenner, Zoey Deutch, Ryan Guzman, Tyler Hoechlin, Will Brittain, and Wyatt Russell. Another Linklater film, this one was a box office bomb that received critical acclaim. Amelio portrayed a character named Nesbit, and Powell as Walter "Finn" Finnegan.
Other credits to his name include Mercy Black, Stumptown, and No Future.
