The Dead Don't Hurt is an upcoming Western written, directed, produced, composed by and starring Viggo Mortensen. The film saw its debut at the 2023 Toronto Film International Film Festival and recently released an incredible trailer released by Shout! Studios for the film. The movie follows Danish immigrant Holger Olsen (Mortensen), who meets an independent woman, Vivienne Le Coudy, portrayed by Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread). The Civil War separates them when Holger eventually enlists in the Union army, leaving Vivienne to fend for herself on their homestead. Things take a bad turn (don't watch the trailer if you don't want things spoiled), and Vivienne must stand against the ruthless men of Elk Flats.

The movie also stars Danny Huston as the corrupt Mayor of Elk Flats, Rudolph Schiller. Dillahunt is a powerful and unscrupulous rancher named Alfred Jeffries, whose wayward and often violent son Weston is portrayed by Solly McLeod. McKinnon portrays Judge Blagen.
