Fear the Walking Dead's Garret Dillahunt & Ray McKinnon in The Dead Don't Hurt trailer

The Dead Don't Hurt is an upcoming Western written, directed, produced, composed by and starring Viggo Mortensen. The film saw its debut at the 2023 Toronto Film International Film Festival and recently released an incredible trailer released by Shout! Studios for the film. (see below) The movie stars Fear the Walking Dead alums Garret Dillahunt, who portrayed John Dorie, and Ray McKinnon, who played Proctor John.
The movie follows Danish immigrant Holger Olsen (Mortensen), who meets an independent woman, Vivienne Le Coudy, portrayed by Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread). She breaks societal norms when she journeys from San Francisco to his home in Elk Flats, Nevada. The Civil War separates them when Holger eventually enlists in the Union army, leaving Vivienne to fend for herself on their homestead. Things take a bad turn (don't watch the trailer if you don't want things spoiled), and Vivienne must stand against the ruthless men of Elk Flats.
The movie also stars Danny Huston as the corrupt Mayor of Elk Flats, Rudolph Schiller. Dillahunt is a powerful and unscrupulous rancher named Alfred Jeffries, whose wayward and often violent son Weston is portrayed by Solly McLeod. McKinnon portrays Judge Blagen.

The Dead Don't Hurt will premeire in theaters on May 31. The early reviews are postive with Deadline's Pete Hammond stating it is "a film that John Ford and Howard Hawks would love." They are both well known for their Western films of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
