INTERVIEW: Walking Dead's Carrie Genzel explores the supernatural with Visit Macon

October is almost here, which means the spooky season will be in full force. Walking Dead actress Carrie Genzel is gearing up for a fantastic season in Macon, Georgia, where she currently resides with her husband, dog, and pet rabbit. Her partnership with Visit Macon and Macon Beyond brings unique supernatural explorations and experiences to the area.

"We moved here December 1st and we love Macon. We really fell in love with the community and the historic nature of it, and that it's not Atlanta. We never really felt at home in Atlanta. It's so it's so big, and we just never found our community. There was something that "when you know, you know." We met some great people here, and initially, we found Macon because we were looking at a business to open here; that didn't work out, but we fell in love with the city." "

Macon Beyond is the October celebration in Macon, including a video series featuring Genzel exploring noteworthy Macon locations with reports of supernatural presence. The first episodes will feature the iconic places of Macon City Auditorium, the Allman Brothers Museum at the Big House, and the 1842 Inn. Macon has the largest number of historic properties than any other town in Georgia. Throughout the years, stories have been shared regarding the spooky occurrences people have experienced in Macon.

While searching for their home in Macon, Genzel connected with city officials and Visit Macon.

"We really got a good sense of what they were planning to do, what they were working on, and what they were revitalizing. The momentum that they had was really exciting. Talking with Visit Macon while they were filming at the Hay House, I said to them, 'You know what I would love to do? I would love to do a series about mystery, history, and haunts.' They said, 'We'd love to do that because that type of content always does really well.' We moved here, and we worked on developing this series, and it's really, really fun."

""it's so funny how things work out because I have my contacts in paranormal investigation and it runs pretty deep. Two friends of mine who I've known for many years ended up moving here from Boise, ID right before we were going to shoot the series. And so I was like. Hmm. How would you like to come down and investigate? And they were totally game. So the two investigators that you see in the first episode are my friends Morrighan and Jon, and they're seasoned pros. So, it's just really exciting to have them come in and do what they do best. It's really incredible, like with the location that we shot in the first episode, the Macon City Auditorium, which has a ton of history and a lot of musical history because there's so much musical history here in Macon. We didn't know what we were going to find, right, because we had heard some stories, and some claims, but you just never know. And it was really exciting that the moment that Morrighan walked into the building, and she'd never been there, was like. Oh yeah, there's a lot going on here. "

Genzel, who has a long list of credits to her name including The Walking Dead, Supernatural, Jennifer's Body, Dead Rising: Watchtower, Evil Feed, and They're Watching, will be part of Macon's October lineup of spooktacular events.

The October event has many exceptional events, including a corn maze, a flea market, the famous Macon Witches Float, the Fall Farm Festival, and many spooky events. Events for the 2024 Macon Beyond begin as early as September 21, with the complete list available here. Genzel will participate in an event that fans of paranormal investigation won't want to miss.

October 25 - 8:00 to 10:00 P.M. ET Rock Candy Tours’ Macon Macabre Tour + Macon Beyond: The Hunt

Genzel, joined by her paranormal investigator friends, will host an after-hours adventure at The Bohemian Den, formerly the site of Ralston Hall, which was burned down in 1886. A limited number of spots are available to join Genzel and her friends in an investigation into the reports of paranormal activity on site. A pesky poltergeist is known to inhabit the building, teasing and playing games with those who visit.

Genzel also shared her excitement regarding the other locations Macon Beyond will film the next two episodes.

"So, we have a couple of episodes that we're about to shoot, and they've announced those locations. I'm excited to jump into those as well. One is the 1842 Inn, so who doesn't love a haunted inn right? Yes, please. And it's beautiful, a Big White Greek Revival with columns, like it's just delicious, right? The other location is The Big House, which is The Allman Brothers Band Museum, the house they lived. It's a huge tourist attraction on its own and there are some claims about stories there. So, I'm really excited to dive into that and see what we find there. "
