Is The Ones Who Live new teaser not as cryptic as it appears?
By Renee Hansen
AMC will premiere the next spinoff of the universe, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, on February 25, 2024. The most recent teaser for the series is literally 10 seconds long, but there has been so much internet chatter about it. We basically get nothing from this, but everyone is so excited to see Rick (Andrew Lincoln) return that this scene has been analyzed and talked about more than some of the others that were longer and actually revealed new things.
This teaser begins with what looks like some type of media promotion for the CRM. And immediately cuts to a gloved hand, inserting a key into the lock of what looks like a door. If you look closer, the key ring contains at least three keys, all of which look similar.
While we all want to give it a closer inspection and figure something out. Could this simply be Rick or perhaps Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) opening their apartment door after a day at work?
Before Michonne (Danai Gurira) discovered that Rick survived the blast at the bridge, Rick had escaped the clutches of the CRM (Civic Republic Military). If you haven't watched The Walking Dead: World Beyond, which I recommend you do before The Ones Who Live premieres, you wouldn't know that the coat and weapon Rick carries belongs to workers at the culling facilities of the CRM. These people have the job of killing walkers, and Silas (Hal Cumpston) in World Beyond was assigned to this job.
It is unlikely that Rick was put in the position but perhaps took the coat and weapon as a disguise to escape. It seems that Rick is much more important to the organization as he was addressed as Consignee Grimes, and this was years ago. The fact that they didn't shoot him on sight when they caught up to him says something, as the CRM is quick to shoot anyone who opposes them.
It is strange to think that Rick is still at the CRM after all these years. But with the reach the CRM has perhaps they have discovered where Rick's family is and have threatened them to ensure he doesn't escape again.
The official trailer for the first season of The Walking Dead: The One Who Live will likely be released soon after the new year. Then we can all piece together these teasers we've been shown for what seems like forever.
