Marvel rumors: Walking Dead alum eyed for Steven Yeun's Thunderbolts replacement
By Renee Hansen
Walking Dead fans were sad to hear the news that Steven Yeun has pulled out of Marvel's Thunderbolts project. He was slated to portray Sentry in the new film but has stated, "Time passing and things shifting kind of pulled me out of it." Daniel Richtman, Twitter influencer and writer, who is always privy to the latest news, has posted that another Walking Dead universe actor is now in talks to take over the role.
Richtman posted that Austin Abrams of Walking Dead and Euphoria fame is in talks to take on the role of Sentry for the upcoming Thunderbolts film. While this is still only a rumor, it is an interesting choice to fulfill the role.
The MCU has been hit hard with disappointments trying to fill the roles of Kang and Sentry. Many fans have voiced their disappointment in the speculation regarding Abrams, but if given a chance, who's to say he couldn't fit the bill? The worry is that Sentry is a complicated character with superpowers so incredible, making him one of the most powerful beings in the entire MCU.
Filming for Thunderbolts is schedule to begin in March or April of 2024 with a release date of July 25, 2025.
UPDATE: Austin Abrams passed on the role.
What other roles has Austin Abrams starred in?
In season 5 of The Walking Dead, Austin Abrams was introduced as Ron Anderson, son of Pete (Corey Brille) and Jessie (Alexandra Breckenridge). The Andersons were members of Alexandria along with their youngest son, Sam (Major Dodson). Ron is shot by Michonne (Danai Gurira) after he shoots Carl (Chandler Riggs) in the eye.
Abrams is also known for his role as Tommy Milner in Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, Dash in the Dash & Lily Netflix original series, and Marc McKeon in This Is Us. He also stars as Ethan Lewis in Euphoria.
Recently, Abrams has appeared in several movies, such as The Line, The Starling Girl, Do Revenge, and Mosquito. He will also star in the upcoming psychological action-thriller Wolfs with George Clooney and Brad Pitt, that will be released in September 2024.
