Tales of the Walking Dead needs to take notes from The Ones Who Live Gabriel cameo

The One Who Live brings Father Gabriel back into the fold and it was brillant.

I am writing this article over a week after The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live episode "Become" aired on AMC and AMC+, and I still can't get over the Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) cameo. It's slightly strange because he's never been in my top five favorites but I think it had more to do with how it was done rather than who was involved.

The episode featured flashbacks featuring secret meetings between Gabriel and Jadis/Anne (Pollyanna McIntosh), which was a great way to show another side to Jadis. She was more relaxed in his presence. This might also explain why Rosita (Christian Serratos) and Gabriel broke up. In the final episodes of The Walking Dead they were co-parenting Coco but no longer in a relationship but the reason was never explained.

During their annual meetings, Gabriel was certain he would change Jadis' mind about returning with him. But this never happened. She even pulled a gun on him, almost taking out a "loose end" that could jeopardize her position within the CRM. These scenes also gave serious Walking Dead vibes with the wooden setting, which is so familiar and is always a highlight.

This made me think how great it is to see a story like this, never seen before, and how Tales of the Walking Dead creators need to take note and create more episodes with these types of side stories. There would be no end to the storylines that could be created like this, featuring characters dead or alive.

This was the case with Alpha's story in Tales of TWD. Viewers thought they knew Alpha's whole story, but the episode "Dee" filled in her history, altering what we all thought we knew about the leader of The Whisperers. It was unexpected and fleshed out this character we thought we knew so well. This episode also featured a young Lydia, giving her more story.
