The Ones Who Live drops 2nd clue to a possible original Walking Dead character cameo
By Renee Hansen
Fans of The Walking Dead are so nostalgic for the original series and its characters that they continue to seek Easter Eggs and long for cameos in the new spinoffs. The most recent spinoff is affectionately called the Rick and Michonne series, The Ones Who Live. The first and second episodes have made references many believe have locked in a cameo of one of the original characters in TWD.
In episode 1, "Years," the first Easter Egg was featured during a scene with Lt. Col. Okafor (Craig Tate), Pearl Thorne (Lesley-Ann Bradt), and Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln). Okafor, prepping Thorne and Rick for leadership, hands them a stack of books, the top one which was very familiar. This was the book The Art of Peace, the same book Morgan Jones (Lennie James) was given by Eastman (John Carroll Lynch) in episode 6, "Here's Not Here," from TWD.
The second one was spoken by Michonne (Danai Gurira) in episode 2 of The Ones Who Live. Posing as a woman named Dana, which was Rick's plan to keep her safe in the Civic Republic Military (CRM), she was asked what her weapon of choice was. Forced to give up her katana in the woods, Michonne replies, a bo staff. This was Morgan's weapon for most of his storyline.
Will Morgan appear in The Ones Who Live?
While these clues seem to represent Morgan, it isn't clear whether or not he will make an appearance; they could just be more nods to the original series. But he did end his run on Fear the Walking Dead with the plan of seeking out his old friend Rick.
During the midseason finale of the final season of Fear TWD, Morgan and his daughter Mo (Zoey Merchant) headed north to locate Rick. This was a great way to set up an appearance in The Ones Who Live. James has stated that "this" is the end of Morgan's story unless "there was a story presented to me that I just could not say no to." Could The Ones Who Live be that story? Only time will tell.
There are four remaining episodes in The Ones Who Live. New episodes air on Sunday on AMC and AMC+, with the finale on March 31.
