The Ones Who Live: Why is Jadis loyal to the CRM?

Actress Pollyanna McIntosh has portrayed Jadis since season 7 of The Walking Dead. The character would be featured in season 2 of the limited spinoff World Beyond and appears again in The Ones Who Live spinoff. She has taken on several different names, many different hairstyles and flipped loyalties when it serves her. What has made her so loyal to a group as ruthless as the CRM?

In season 8 of The Walking Dead, Jadis, going by her given name Anne, became a member of Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) community. By the next season, she would secure Rick's rescue and her own departure by the CRM. She would trade Rick to gain entrance to the Civic Republic and join the CRM.

In an interview with AMC Talk, McIntosh addressed Jadis' loyalty to the CRM. Jadis needed to feel safe and believed the CRM was the place to obtain that. After the horrific loss of her people at the Heaps, Jadis carried much guilt and shame for not keeping her group, whom she sincerely cared about, safe. McIntosh also shared that Jadis couldn't afford to process her trauma, resulting in suppressing those emotions and focusing on her role at the CRM.

She truly believes that the CRM is doing great things, which gives her the drive to succeed in a place where she will be safe and thrive. She tries to convince Rick of this, but it hasn't worked so far.

"She also holds this almost cultish belief in this organization, so she believes, "We are the last light of the world. We can do all these great things — you’re awesome so you should join us too." Of course, Rick is having none of it. "

Jadis threatening Rick and his family can't be good for her, especially with Michonne (Danai Gurira) back in the story. It will be exciting to see how the two remaining episodes play out.
