Walking Dead's Dallas Roberts & Jason Butler Harner in Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story

The second installment of Netflix's Monsters anthology series is coming to the streamer this fall.

In 2022, Netflix released the first segment of a biographical true crime series created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story. In September, the streamer will release the second season, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story. Walking Dead alums Dallas Roberts and Jason Butler Harner have been cast in the series.

The series' first season received mixed reviews but was overwhelmingly a success. The story chronicled the killing spree of Dahmer, a notorious serial killer, and dramatized his killings, conviction, and death. After the wild success of the first season, it is no surprise that another installment has been created. Dahmer reached 1 billion views in the first 60 hours after its release, an achievement only reached by three other series.

Murphy and Brennen return to take on another high-profile case that garnered the nation's attention in the 90s. The case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, who murdered their parents, Jose and Kitty, in the family's Beverly Hills house in 1989, was so shocking it was difficult to believe. On the night of August 20, 1989, the brothers entered their Beverly Hills home and proceeded to shoot and kill their parents.

The investigation of who could have committed these murders was on going while the brothers began to lavishly spend the family fortune. With no other leads, investigators began to look at the brothers as the possible killers. On March 8, 1990, Lyle was arrested and three days later Erik turned himself in.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story will premiere on Netflix on September 19. Watch the teaser below.

The brothers are portrayed by Alexander Chavez and Cooper Kock, as Lyle and Erik, respectively. Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny play their parents.

Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story cast

  • Nathan Lane - Dominick Dunne, investigative journalist who cover the trials for Vanity Fair.
  • Ari Graynor - Leslie Abramson, a promint LA defense attorney in the 80s and 90s who served as counsel for Erik.
  • Leslie Grossman - Judalon Smyth - mistress of Erik's therapist Dr. Jerome Oziel, who ultimately played a key role in the arrests of the brothers.
  • Enrique Murciano - Carlos Baralt, Americanized Cuban immigrant, uncle to the Menendez brothers, and executor of the Menendez will.

Dallas Roberts, who is remembered for portraying Milton Mamet in season 3 of The Walking Dead, will portray Dr. Jerome Oziel, the therapist Erik begins sessions with after the murders.

Jason Butler Harner, who played Toby Carlson in season 11 of TWD, portrays Les Zoeller, a Beverly Hills detective who was the lead in the Menendez case.
