By Renee Hansen
Variety reports that Walking Dead actor Steven Ogg has been cast in a new role at SYFY. Ogg is best known in TWDU for his portrayal of Simon, a member of Negan's (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) Saviors. He reprised the role in the first season of the spinoff, The Walking Dead: Dead City, giving fans more back story on Simon and the Saviors.
Ogg has secured a recurring role in Revival, a series which is based on the Image Comic series created by Tim Seeley and Mike Norton. The series has been developed for Syfy by Aaron B. Koontz and Luke Boyce, who are the series showrunners and executive producers. Lance Samuels, Daniel Iron, Samantha Levine, Daniel March, Melanie Scrofano, Greg Hemmings, and Stephen Foster also executive produce the project produced by Blue Ice Pictures and Hemmings Films.
Revival synopsis: “On one miraculous day in rural Wisconsin, the recently deceased suddenly rise from their graves. But this is no zombie story as the ‘revived’ appear and act just like they once were. When local officer and single mother Dana Cypress (Scrofano) is unexpectedly thrown into the center of a brutal murder mystery of her own, she’s left to make sense of the chaos amidst a town gripped by fear and confusion where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.”
Ogg joins the previously announced cast of Melanie Scrofano, Romy Weltman, David James Elliott, and Andy McQueen. He will portray Blaine Abel, a man raised by a fire and brimstone pastor who sees Revival Day as his divine calling. Blaine will use the chaos and fear to rally a militia of true believers against the Revivers.
In addition to The Walking Dead, Ogg is well known for his roles in Better Call Saul, Westworld, Snowpiercer, and Emancipation. Some of his most recent roles include the sci-fi thriller All the Lost Ones and the parody buddy comedy Dad Company. He also starred in the BBC series Boiling Point, which is streaming on Netflix. Ogg lent his voice talents to Grand Theft Auto 5 in the role of Trevor, for which he is quite famous.
