Watch David Morrissey in trailer for new BBC Three comedy, Daddy Issues
By Renee Hansen
The Walking Dead's Governor, David Morrisey, was announced as cast in a comedy earlier this year. The actor, referred to as "one of the most versatile English actors of his generation," will prove his skills as he spreads his comedic wings in the new series Daddy Issues.
The six-part BBC Three series is created by well known British stand up comedian, Danielle Ward (Brassic, In the Long Run). Ward is joined by Morrisey and his co-star, Sex Education's Aimee Lou Wood, as executive producers with Damon Beesley and Catherine Morshead directing.
Described as an odd-couple sitcom, the story features Wood's 24-year-old Gemma, a party girl who finds herself pregnant from a random hookup. Out of desperation, she finds herself living with her recently divorced father, Malcolm (Morrissey), who, until Gemma arrived, was living with fellow divorcee Derek (David Flynn). Malcolm is clueless about anything to do with housekeeping. BBC has released the first promo (below) for the series, which showcases their out-of-control lives as they try, unsuccessfully, to plan for the arrival of Gemma's baby.
Additional cast for Daddy Issues includes Sharon Rooney (Barbie), Sarah Hadland (Inside No. 9), Taj Atwal (Hullraisers), Arian Nik (Passenger), Tom Stourton (Poor Things) and Susan Lynch (The Change). They are joined by Susannah Fielding (Who is Erin Carter?), Lauren O'Rourke (Henpocalypse), Cyril Nri (Death in Paradise), Cora Kirk (Grantchester), Perry Fitzgerald (Line of Duty), Claire Keelan (Call the Midwife), Damien Molony (Brassic), Sherrie Hewson (Coronation Street), Humphrey Ker (Welcome to Wrexham) and David Reed (Ghosts).
Watch Daddy Issues via BBC Three on TV and BBC iPlayer beginning August 15.
Morrissey recently starred in the drama series The Long Shadow. Next he will star in the sci-fi thriller Slingshot, with Tomer Capone, Casey Affleck, and Laurence Fishburne. The movie releases on August 30. He will reprise his role as DCS Ian St. Clair, in the second season of the BBC One series Sherwood, which is expected to release sometime in 2024.
