What episode does Bob Stookey die in The Walking Dead?
By Renee Hansen
Lawrence Gilliard Jr. joined The Walking Dead during season 3, "30 Days Without an Accident" when he meets Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Glenn (Steven Yeun). He had experienced a lot of events after the outbreak, which found him in a miserable state, longing for a place to feel safe. Bob turned to alcohol to deal with the guilt of his past groups being overrun.
Bob's death occurred during the season 5 episode, “Four Walls and a Roof." The episode begins with Bob captured by Gareth (Andrew J. West) the cannibals of Terminus. They removed his leg, cooked it, and ate it before him. Bob knew one thing they didn't; he had been bit while they were at the food bank, which prompted him to begin shouting, "Tainted meat."
They return him to Father Gabriel's (Seth Gilliam) church, where Bob succumbs to his bite, and Rick fulfills his promise to Gareth regarding a certain red-handle machete.
Walking Dead - Red Handled Machete
Rick's promise to Gareth occurred during the season 5 episode "No Sanctuary," written by Scott Gimple and directed by Greg Nicotero. The terminites gathered Rick, Daryl, Glenn, and Bob to their human slaughterhouse, where they slit the throats and drain the blood of their victims, preparing them for eating.
As the workers go through the motions, Gareth addresses Rick, questioning what is in the bag he buried in the woods. Rick lists the items, rifles, handguns, a compound bow, and a red-handled machete, stating, "That's what I'm gonna use to kill you."
Before Glenn can be killed, gunshots are heard, and then a massive explosion. This is Carol (Melissa McBride) saving the day.
It is poetic justice that Rick kills Gareth with the red-handled machete after his promise and the mutilation of Bob, who was also one of the trough victims.
