What to know about Rick and Michonne before The Ones Who Live series premiere
By Renee Hansen
Perhaps you, like many fans of The Walking Dead stopped watching the series at some point but are very interested in the continued story of the apocolyptic powerhouse couple of Rick and Michonne. The good news is that the duo returns in a brand new spinoff, The Ones Who Live, but before you watch, you might have some catching up to do.
The Ones Who Live is executive produced by showrunner and TWD CCO Scott M. Gimple with Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira, who also star. They are joined as EPs by Walking Dead veterans Denise Huth, Brian Bockrath, and Greg Nicotero.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live is a six-part series that will air episodes weekly on Sundays beginning February 25 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC and 3 a.m. ET for AMC+ subscribers.
Rick and Michonne spinoff
Rick and Michonne would meet in season 3 of The Walking Dead; while it was hardly love at first sight, the characters had a common enemy, which enabled them to join forces. They were both being hunted down by the Governor (David Morrissey) and knew he had to be stopped.
As time passed, Michonne became a valued fighter and leader among the communities. This would lead to her working alongside Rick at Alexandria, eventually leading to love.
Rick and Michonne timeline season 9 and beyond
- Rick would make a sacrificial move when he blew up a bridge to prevent a horde of walkers from entering the communities. He was assumed to be dead, but viewers had inside information about his rescue by Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh).
- Michonne gives birth to Rick's son, Rick Grimes Jr., known as RJ.
- In The Walking Dead series finale, Rick, known as Consignee Rick Grimes by the Civic Republic Military (CRM), whom he was being held captive, would deposit a bag of his possessions on a boat marked 672.
- Michonne discovers clues of Rick's survival on Bloodworth Island. The boat, 672, which held Rick's possessions, had washed ashore on the island during a storm.
- Michonne shares the information about Rick's survival with their daughter Judith, who encourages MIchonne to search for him. She believes if he is alive and hasn't returned, he needs help.
- The Walking Dead series finale revealed that Michonne had never given up her search for The Brave Man, Rick Grimes.
