AMC is gearing up for the long-awaited premiere of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, affectionately referred to as the Rick and Michonne spinoff. This series is an exciting new chapter in The Walking Dead universe featuring the return of the apocalyptic power couple that also heavily focuses on the Civic Republic Military (CRM) led by Terry O'Quinn's Major General Beale. O'Quinn is well known for numerous roles throughout his career, including his Primetime Emmy Award-winning role as John Lock on the series Lost.
Created by Jeffrey Lieber, J. J. Abrams, and Damon Lindelof for ABC, Lost is a supernatural series that follows survivors of a plane crash traveling from Sydney, Australia, to Los Angeles. The series ran from 2004 to 2010 with six seasons, all available to stream on Hulu.
O'Quinn portrayed John Locke, a mysterious and intellectual man introduced in season 1. He was proficient in hunting and tracking and enjoyed living in the wild. Due to what he called a miracle after the plane crashed on a mysterious island, Locke believed that mystical and spiritual elements could explain occurrences on the island.
He was awarded a Primetime Emmy in the category Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as John Locke in Lost.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live trailer
AMC has released a first-look trailer for The Ones Who Live, view it below, which features a scene with Walking Dead hero Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and O'Quinn's Beale. This is the first real look at Major General Beale, a ruthless man who leads the CRM military. He was first mentioned in the limited coming-of-age spinoff series The Walking Dead: World Beyond.
Beale will likely be the newest villain in The Walking Dead universe. Jadis (Pollyanna McIntosh) will return in this series as she is a warrant officer within the CRM, another reveal from the World Beyond story. Beale is a man who answers to no one but expects to be obeyed by the soldiers under his command.
It will be interesting to see if Beale's son Mason (Will Meyers) will have a role in the new series. He was featured in World Beyond, where Beale was never seen, only talked of and heard during a phone conversation. The inclusion of his son could add an exciting family dynamic to the story as viewers know Rick longsIncluding to return to his wife and children. This element would give Rick and Beale a common ground.
The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premieres on AMC and AMC+ on Feburary 25.
