Since Resident Evil: Biohazard was released in 2017, Capcom's beloved saga has returned to its golden (and most terrifying) days. Fans worldwide have been alternating between brand-new installments that push the franchise even further and remakes of iconic titles that are worth revisiting with modern technology. Fortunately, not only has the streak yet to be broken, but it seems Capcom is keen on keeping its promise to deliver yearly RE releases.
After Resident Evil Requiem hit shelves earlier this year, all eyes have turned to Resident Evil Veronica—a remake of the 2000 classic set to come our way in 2027. Although a concrete release date still eludes us, it seems we'll get to play the game earlier than anticipated, and it's all thanks to an unprecedented development cycle that has lacked any bumps or major reboots.
Resident Evil Veronica reportedly enjoys the smoothest development cycle in the saga
According to insider Dusk Golem, Resident Evil Veronica has had one of the smoothest development cycles across the entire RE saga and is currently tracking to be released eight to ten months ahead of its original release window in 2028. Furthermore, the upcoming video game will spend "a year or two" less in development than most modern Resident Evil titles.
Dusk Golem expanded on the report by stating that Resident Evil Requiem was delayed a year from its internal release goal, while Village was pushed back a year and a half due to reboots and late development changes. On the bright side, Resident Evil Veronica has had no internal resets, which is why it will be able to hit shelves next year. That being said, it seems these last months before release may not be as smooth as the rest of the development cycle.
The same source also reported that Resident Evil Veronica is in a "crucial crunch period" that will help determine when exactly in 2027 it will see the light of day. This would explain why no concrete date was attached to the game's reveal trailer during Summer Game Fest 2026.
Anticipation is at an all-time high for the upcoming remake starring Claire Redfield, especially since the original title, released on the Dreamcast, had awkward tank controls and made it very easy to get softlocked by running out of ammo. Those problems shouldn't be present the second time around, and with Capcom's near-impeccable track record when it comes to remakes, it's easy to see why the community is eager to play the next installment in the franchise.
Resident Evil Veronica has already surpassed 2 million wishlists across all platforms—an impressive feat that is also helped by the fact that over 8 million players played Resident Evil Requiem within four months of its release. Furthermore, it has been revealed that the masterminds behind the acclaimed Resident Evil 2 and 4 remakes, Yasuhiro Anpo and Kazunori Kadoi, are leading the development of Veronica, which certainly adds to the excitement.
With a bit of luck, it won't be long before we hear more about what Resident Evil Veronica has to offer. While Gamescom is just around the corner, chances are that Capcom's upcoming title won't be showcased until The Game Awards in December at the earliest. But at the very least, we know next year will be home to more terrifying zombie adventures, and we can't wait to see how it all pans out.
Resident Evil Veronica will be released in 2027.
