Award-winning actor Steven Yeun gained popularity for his portrayal of mild-mannered former pizza delivery guy, Glenn Rhee, in The Walking Dead. His character's brutal death changed the course of the series. In 2025, the actor shared his thoughts on his favorite episode of the series with Entertainment Weekly.

Yeun cites episode 102, "Guts," as his favorite episode. Written by Frank Darabont, the series original showrunner, and directed by Michelle MacLaren, this iconic episode features many great moments.

This episode gets its name from the first time the "guts" trick was used to ward off the walkers by masking their scent. This was used by Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Glenn. Yeun states that this episode "stayed with me for good." He enjoyed the first meeting between Rick and Glenn, as well as the action featured in the scenes. This episode allowed Yeun to get to know his character.

"Episode 2 of the whole series—that one stayed with me for good. That was awesome. To have the first meeting between Glenn and Rick. To being covered in guts, running down the street, being chased by walkers, jumping over the fence. Doing all that action stuff and really getting to know Glenn as a character and really kind of bringing Rick and the rest of the group together. That was a blast. That’s definitely one of my favorite episodes."

Walking Dead - Breaking Bad connection

This episode features Glenn in a Dodge Charger used to lure the walkers away, the same type of car that Walter White (Bryan Cranston) purchases for his son Walt Jr. (RJ Mitte), in another AMC series, Breaking Bad. In the Breaking Bad episode "Problem Dog," Walt sells the car to a man named Glenn.

There have been several other theories trying to tie the two series together. Although there are no official connections, viewers site the above and other Easter Eggs that could place the shows in the same time line.

Examples include Merle's (Michael Rooker) Blue Meth, and Daryl (Norman Reedus) describes a drug dealer as a "janky little white guy" who many fans believe is Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman have joked about the connections but have never officially confirmed any connections.
