The Walking Dead saga has been around for a long time. During that time, Rick Grimes and his beloved group of survivors have battled all kinds of threats, hoping to overcome the evils of the undead world so that they could all live to fight another day (and then just live). Those threats entailed the undead themselves, as the relentless walkers posed the biggest danger to everyone in the TWD Universe - but they weren't the only ones, as the survivors had to contend with human villains like Negan and the Governor, as well as, well, less-human threats like The Whisperers.

Nearly two decades after the original show began, those threats still exist in this deadly world. From the hordes of walkers in Dead City to the super-charged monsters in Daryl Dixon, our heroes still have a lot of battles to take on through the various TWD spinoffs. And that's not even including the villainous folk like the Civic Republic Military, the theatrical duo of The Croat and The Dama, and the ruthless Madame Genet.

However, the franchise will now be bringing back the most deadly threat that we honestly didn't see enough of in the original series. And we can't wait to see them in action.

Daryl Dixon season 3 will bring back The Walking Dead's flaming walkers

If you thought the idea of the dead rising was terrifying, how about the dead rising while on fire. Not only do you have to avoid their blood-thirsty jaws but their entire, fiery bodies. It's the stuff straight out of horror movies and the TWD Universe has dabbled with the idea a few times in the past. And yet, it has never fully showcased the idea to its full potential - that will change in the upcoming third season of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.

AMC has released a brand new teaser clip from Daryl Dixon season 3, allowing fans to get a quick glimpse of what to expect from it. And, well, let's just say things get hot! The clip features a number walkers rising to their feet as they are covered in flames. Unperturbed about their burning flesh, the zombies shuffle towards the people around them, including Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride), who backs away for a moment to think of a game-plan.

Carol should know all about flaming walkers. She unleashed a herd of them in the fifth season of The Walking Dead when she made her explosive arrival at Terminus to save her friends. That was just one of the franchise's examples of the flaming walkers, and it remains one of the most significant.

Another moment in which these terrifying creatures made their presence felt on the franchise was in Fear The Walking Dead's midseason finale when Madison Clark seemingly sacrificed herself by locking herself inside the stadium that her family once called home. Trapped against a door with no way out as the walkers approached, she set the immediate area around her on fire with a flare, immediately setting alight to all of the walkers too. It was a terrifying sight - particularly for Madison, who was willing to go down fighting for her family (thankfully, she survived and returned three seasons later).

It's looking like the return of these fiery beasts could be part of a major set piece for Daryl Dixon season 3. This is a good thing as it not only presents the TWD Universe with an opportunity to dive into one of the most underrated recurring threats throughout the years, but also allows it to benefit from the atmospheric tone and style of this particular spinoff.

Daryl Dixon is known for its visuals, and with this season being set in the warm, seemingly safe area of Spain that Daryl and Carol are going to spend their time in, the sight of these walkers on fire is sure going to make for quite the moment.

This is the kind of tension that fans like to see in shows like this one, and with TWD running for so long, it often took that for granted. We're glad that Daryl Dixon doesn't appear to be doing the same. The flaming walkers are back - and perhaps more terrifying than ever!

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 premieres on September 7 on AMC and AMC+.
