In February 2027, the tale of two of the most iconic post-apocalyptic survivors will come to an end. For the last three years, Daryl Dixon has explored the streets of Europe, facing new types of zombies, encountering different groups of survivors, and increasing his kill count by dozens. Eventually, Carol Peletier joined him in Paris, and since then, the dynamic duo has been trying to find a way back home. Fortunately, it won't be long before we find out whether they will accomplish their mission.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 is just around the corner, and expectations are at an all-time high. Major returns have already been confirmed, such as Romain Levi's Stéphane Codron. Furthermore, fans have theorized that Laurent Carrière and Ash Patel could also make a comeback, especially if Daryl and Carol make their way back to America.
However, there's one specific character who hasn't appeared in the spinoff show just yet, but who should be there by the time the credits roll on the final episode? We have one person in mind.

Rick Grimes should return in the finale of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4
Daryl and Carol have spent so many years in Europe that it can be easy to forget that the whole reason they found themselves on a different continent in the first place was because of Rick Grimes.
In the finale of the main Walking Dead series, Daryl embarked on a mission to find his friend, Rick Grimes, who disappeared in season 9 after being captured by the Civic Republic Military. During one of his scouting missions, Daryl ran low on fuel and accepted a job in exchange for filling his motorcycle's tank, but this horribly backfired.
After getting in trouble with some bad apples, Daryl was kidnapped and put on a boat. While the iconic survivor eventually managed to escape, he wound up on the coast of France. Carol eventually decided to join her friend and flew to France as well. From that point, everything is history.
It would be such a wonderful payoff if — four seasons later — Daryl returned to America and crossed paths with Rick Grimes. That way, not only would Daryl accomplish his original mission, but the pieces would be set for the long-awaited Walking Dead reunion project. After all, it would be easy to get Michonne back in the mix if Rick appears. And if we assume Daryl returns to America, then chances are Carol will do so as well. From that point onwards, we would only need Maggie and Negan to join the rest of the group.
Rick Grimes' last appearance was all the way back in 2024, in the final episode of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. By the time Daryl Dixon season 4 premieres, nearly four years will have passed since Rick took over the small screen. Needless to say, his return has been long overdue.
Unfortunately, even if Rick's appearance were to be met with a lot of excitement from the community, it's unlikely it will happen soon unless The Walking Dead reunion project is next on the slate. It is much more realistic to assume Laurent and Ash will be the big "surprise" returns in Daryl Dixon season 4, with no members from the original group making a cameo.
Only time will tell what surprises AMC has in store for us. On the bright side, it won't be long before we witness the final chapter of Daryl and Carol's journey.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4 will be released in February 2027.
