Maggie Rhee née Greene was first introduced in season 2 of The Walking Dead. Throughout her story she has suffered great losses that have hardened her to the world. Her most traumatic loss was that of her husband Glenn (Steven Yeun), who was beaten to death before her eyes by Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). This event has caused her to become consumed with the idea of revenge so much so that it has significantly affected her relationship with her teenaged son, as seen in the first season of The Walking Dead: Dead City.
At the end of the first season of Dead City, Maggie's son, Hershel (Logan Kim), confronts her about her need for revenge and the fact that she puts that before anyone, including him. She later tells him that she heard what he said and vows to finish things with Negan.
"It's like you're obsessed with him. With Negan. With what he did. Getting him back. You've always... And I'm right here. But you don't see me. It's like my whole life you've been looking over my shoulder, watching for him, waiting for him. But you never see me"Hershel Rhee
At some point, Maggie and her son left Hilltop to move to the Bricks, an old brick factory located near New York City. The explanation for the move is that the original community experienced too much damage during the Whisperer War and a bomb during fighting with the Commonwealth. There, Maggie and other former Hilltoppers, along with newcomers, have tried to build a new life.

The first look images for season 2 feature Maggie, Hershel, and Ginny (Mahina Napoleon), an orphan girl formerly in the care of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), living at the Bricks. Some of the images featuring Ginny are quite concerning, as it appears she is inside a fenced area fighting off walkers.

Upon closer look at these images, Perlie Armstrong (Giaus Charles) of New Babylon, watches as she fights. Other images feature Charlie Byrd (Jasmin Walker), governor of New Babylon, addressing Maggie and other members of the Bricks. The visit doesn't look all that friendly.

In season 1, Armstrong was tasked with locating a man wanted for the murder of several New Babylon residents. The man was Negan, who attacked and killed five men, including a magistrate, as they robbed and beat his wife Annie (Medina Senghore). This led Armstrong to Manhattan, where he found Negan, learned the truth, and let him go.

When Armstrong reported back to Governor Byrd, he told her that he killed Negan, and she was disappointed that there was no body to display, as was their practice to warn others against breaking the law. She quickly recovered from that loss to find out more about the Croat (Željko Ivanek) and his process of making methane to use as fuel.
The battle for Manhattan will most likely see the confrontation between the gangs on the island vs. New Babylon and members of the Bricks that may be forced into joining. Returning to Manhattan could mean bad news for Armstrong, as the group will encounter Negan, in turn unveiling his lie to Byrd.
