As its title implies, death plays a big part in a franchise as ruthless as The Walking Dead. In a post-apocalyptic world where the undead rise from the ground to hunt the few who have been left behind, beloved characters are bound to bite the dust in the most traumatic ways possible. Years later, we're still mourning fan favorites such as Beth and Lori Grimes. However, there's one death in particular that takes the cake—and you probably know which one I'm referring to.
Negan brutally killed a member of Rick's group during the season 6 finale of The Walking Dead, except we didn't get to see who it was. Fans had to spend months in the dark, fearing for the fate of their favorite characters. Ultimately, season 7 kicked things off with the revelation that Glenn had been chosen to be set as an example for the rest of the survivors. This event was especially traumatic for Maggie, Glenn's wife, who was expecting a baby with him.
Throughout the events of The Walking Dead: Dead City, we've seen how Glenn's death continues to shape Maggie, her relationship with her son, Hershel, and her interactions with her frenemy, Negan. But after many years of dwelling on the past, it may finally be time to move on.

Maggie is starting to move on from Glenn in The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 has been all about new beginnings. The first four episodes waste no time getting rid of previous storylines and antagonists while introducing new faces like siblings Luis and Renata. Additionally, the show's narrative now revolves around creating a place where any survivor can start anew. But perhaps one of the most striking changes is that Maggie has started a fresh chapter in her life where she actually seems happy.
During the events of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 episode 4, Maggie and Luis embark on a road trip to find medical supplies. On their way, they grow closer as they share stories about themselves and crack no shortage of jokes. Luis tells Maggie about his ex-wife, Marisol, who abandoned him and is presumably dead now. In exchange, Maggie tells him stories about her time living on Hershel's farm.
Despite being on a life-or-death mission, the two find time to play Jenga and discuss what type of people they would like to be moving forward. Eventually, they stumble upon a community of survivors that is hosting a party in honor of a new full moon. Night falls, and Maggie and Luis start to dance—first in an amicable and humorous way, but then they move slower and slower until she imagines herself kissing him.

While nothing truly happened between Maggie and Luis, this is the first time she's pictured herself with someone other than Glenn. To double down on this idea, the ending of the episode sees Maggie lose her engagement ring in the middle of an earthquake, symbolically letting go of the last thing keeping her attached to Glenn. Now, she is finally ready to move on.
If Maggie fully lets go of the tragedy that once haunted her, it would also explain why she and Negan are finally able to grow closer without any impulse to, you know, kill each other. Furthermore, it could also act as the stepping stone needed for Hershel and Maggie to develop a stronger relationship.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 has been all about new beginnings, and Maggie's ongoing arc is the definitive proof of that. Fortunately, it won't be long before we discover how things play out from here.
New episodes of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 air every Sunday on AMC and AMC+.
