The final stretch is finally here. Last week, The Walking Dead fans took a pause from all the high-stakes scenarios and explored a parallel universe in which the world didn't abruptly end when the undead rose from beneath the ground. Instead, we witnessed what Maggie and Negan's life would've been like under normal circumstances: working full-time jobs, talking about their travels around the world, and meeting up with people who are long gone in the mainline universe, such as Beth.

This alternate episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City arrived at the perfect moment, because the darkest and most intense section of season 3 lies on the horizon. After all, episode 5 culminates with Negan killing Fabian and basically declaring war against the community led by Renata and Maggie. Furthermore, episode 6 reveals that he took things a step further by slicing Dillard's face in half. All hell has broken loose, and now it's time to watch how the chaos unfolds.

What to expect in the seventh episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3

The upcoming episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City will break the formula that has been introduced up until this point. Despite their differences, Negan, Maggie, Dillard, and Renata have all worked together so far in an effort to build a safe community of survivors who have a reasonable lifestyle. However, all of that collaboration came to an end the moment Negan killed Fabian (even if he did so for very good reasons).

It's unlikely Maggie and Negan will be at odds with each other once again. After all, actors Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan have openly talked about how the will-they-won't-they-kill-each-other trope has become very tiresome and repetitive over the years. With that in mind, it's likely that we'll see Maggie try to ease the situation and talk some sense into Negan. On the other hand, Renata has already made it clear she wants to solve the problem using guns.

This situation is bound to create a little friction between the two leaders of this newfound community. And to make matters more complicated, Negan isn't one to back down from a fight either.

Perhaps the most interesting tidbit we know about The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 episode 7 is that Negan cuts Dillard's face. Perhaps this will stem from the fact that Dillard's zombie friend, Cockenspiel, was accidentally killed when Fabian was shot. As such, it isn't far-fetched to believe that the former police officer will lose it when he discovers the events that unfolded at the bar. That being said, it's pretty difficult to imagine a scenario in which Negan and Dillard, who used to be the best of friends, suddenly start attacking each other over a few dead walkers. Fortunately, the time for answers is nearly here.

The Walking Dead: Dead City episode 7 will be released on Sep. 6, 2026.
