For the last couple of weeks, The Walking Dead fans have seen how Maggie and Negan repaired their relationship, how a new community of survivors was born, and how Maggie started to let the past go and move on from Glenn. However, all of this will be for nothing if they perish in the very last moment at the hands of a new villain: Mason Dillard.
Throughout most of its run, The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 featured no direct or standout antagonist. Instead, Maggie and Renata had to find solutions to the many problems that come with housing and protecting dozens of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world. Even newcomers Luis DeLeon and Mason Dillard lent a hand throughout most of the show, but everything crumbled the moment Negan shot one of Dillard's undead friends.
Now the former police officer is out for revenge, and he will stop at nothing until he gets it. The stakes have never been higher, and it's nearly time to see how this tale unfolds.
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 episode 8 release date and time by time zone
The final episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3, titled "Tenebrae," will air on AMC on Sunday, Sep. 13, 2026, at 9:00 p.m. ET / PT in the US. If it's anything like the episodes before it, it should have a runtime of around 45 to 50 minutes. Moreover, there will be a way to watch it even earlier than its network release.
The third season finale of The Walking Dead: Dead City will air on the AMC+ streaming platform on Sunday, Sep. 13, at 12:00 a.m. PT. With that in mind, here's a chart breaking down its release timing in different US time zones:

What to expect from the final episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3
The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 has offered plenty of thrills, but not many action-packed moments. That (mostly) stems from the fact that there was no direct antagonist for Maggie and Negan to fight. After all, the villains from previous seasons were killed very quickly in the first two episodes—erasing all traces of former storylines before the show started anew. So now that Dillard has finally embraced his dark side, we're bound to see a little more killing than usual, especially considering that the new villain is not on his own. After all, he has a whole group of madmen on his side.
It will be interesting to see whether Dillard himself will survive the events of the finale and keep terrorizing Negan and Maggie for seasons to come. However, a scenario that seems all the more likely (and even poetic) is that he will die and become one of the walkers he was once obsessed with. If that were to happen, then the rest of his crew would surely go down with him as well.
The episode is also bound to deal with the ramifications of Renata's death. After all, she was one of the key leaders of the newfound survivor community. Maybe her passing will prompt Negan to step up and take charge alongside Maggie, which was one of the promises of this third season of The Walking Dead: Dead City.
Perhaps the most important thing is that the season finale should give us a sense of where the story will head next (if it ever does continue). After all, this spin-off show of The Walking Dead hasn't been officially renewed for a fourth season yet, but it will be easier to determine its fate after episode 8 airs.
