Even though The Walking Dead ended almost three years ago with its eleventh and final series, the blockbuster franchise continues to live on with a number of spinoff series still on the air. While The Walking Dead: Dead City season 2 just finished airing in June 2025 and was also renewed for a third season, the next TWD universe spinoff to hit our screens will be The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3.
There has been so much news about Daryl Dixon lately out of San Diego Comic-Con, including the fact that the series was renewed for season 4, which will be the final season of the series centered around Norman Reedus' titular character. We have also just learned some exciting news about a major change for the upcoming seasons that fans will especially love because it means there will be more of the series to enjoy.
Daryl Dixon season 3 and 4 will have an increased episode count
According to Screen Rant, Daryl Dixon season 3 will consist of seven episodes rather than the usual series standard episode count of six. Daryl and Carol's adventures in Spain will take place over a long stretch of time than their time in France across seasons 1 and 2. Of course, that means that the episode count for season 4 has also been increased to eight episodes. For the last two seasons, that's an increase of three extra episodes!

That's definitely music to our ears since the news that Daryl Dixon will end with season 4 sure soured the mood for a minute there. While Daryl Dixon season 3 premieres on Sept. 7 and there's still a fourth and final season to look forward to likely next fall, The Walking Dead universe is seemingly starting to slow down in a big way. There are only three series currently left in the franchise with one imminently on its way out.
But at least there will be more episodes in the upcoming seasons! In The Hollywood Reporter's original report about the season 4 renewal, the outlet said that season 4 would be the eight-episode final season, but the new suggestion that on top of those two extra episodes, season 3 also has an extra episode to extend Daryl and Carol's journey means the surely goes out with a bang that's bigger than ever.
While not much is known about these two seasons ahead of their premieres, the duo are set to join forces with a survivor group and take on an opposing group, and as per usual in The Walking Dead universe, the inevitable conflict gets a bit bloody and fatal. It's clear that the storylines for season 3 and 4 will require a bit more time to tell and wrap the entire series up.
All told, by the time the series comes to an end, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will contain a grand told of 27 episodes, which is just three episodes shy of The Walking Dead season 11 episode count, which contained the franchise's highest order for a single season at 24 episodes. We've come a long way from the original classic's glory days, but there's still a lot to look forward to in the upcoming spinoff seasons!
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 3 premieres Sept. 7 on AMC.
