The Walking Dead was once among the most popular shows on TV. It crafted a legacy for itself in which it brought in some of the highest-numbers in cable history as audiences were on the edges of their seats to watch Rick Grimes and his friends survive the harsh realities of a zombie apocalypse. And, just as Rick's determination to outlast the dead drove the show forward, the franchise itself has continued to survive the harsh realities of the ever-changing TV landscape.
The TWD Universe now consists of two sequel series set after the events of The Walking Dead's series finale. Daryl Dixon and Dead City continue to air new episodes annually (for the most part) as they are just the most recent shows to successfully capitalize on the franchise's long-standing affinity for spinoffs. However, in the midst of this new era - which AMC has successfully made work for three years now - many have forgotten that another spinoff was commissioned, too. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this one will make it to screens.
More Tales From The Walking Dead Universe hasn't had an update since 2023
Remember More Tales From The Walking Dead Universe? It's okay if you don't, because there wasn't too much buzz made about it even when the planned spinoff was announced. That's a shame because, like the show that actually inspired it, it has a lot of potential. But it just doesn't seem like it's going to happen.
Originally announced back in April 2023 when AMC ordered it to series, More Tales was designed to be a short form spinoff / sequel season to Tales of the Walking Dead. But we're coming up on three years since its announcement and there has been no significant update on its progress. None. AMC has instead pivoted to focus on crafting a new era of spinoffs that spotlights original Walking Dead characters (instead of crafting another totally new offshoot).

Although it hasn't been officially confirmed, fans have just begun assuming that the project was quietly shelved and / or cancelled when the focus of the franchise shifted. Yes, even though AMC was already focused on building out the franchise with its legacy characters at this point, it's possible that More Tales was conceived as a way of giving Tales more of a send-off (as it wasn't officially confirmed to have ended until three years after it aired).
The information on More Tales is scarce but it sounds like it was intended to be a short-form version of anthology series Tales, with each episode focusing on new standalone adventures within the TWD Universe. How it would have differed outside of format was never disclosed but fans have speculated that it might have been in the form of more digestible webisodes (like Fear The Walking Dead's webseries companion). But, to quote Kate Winslet's underrated Christmas hit "What If", I guess we'll never know.
TWD's pivot towards legacy characters rendered standalone spinoffs unnecessary
In a situation like this, we'd normally say that it's important to wait for AMC to officially confirm any respective show's cancellation, but as it's been three years of radio silence, a confirmation may never be announced. But, whether it is or not, the writing is unfortunately on the wall. All you need to do is look at More Tales' parent series for an answer.
Tales of the Walking Dead was originally revealed as one of two new spinoffs destined to carry on the franchise's legacy after the original show ended. Heck, it was announced on the same day - alongside what became The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. But, as the original series' final season ran for longer than expected, and AMC placed more and more focus on the legacy characters (through further spinoffs Dead City and The Ones Who Live), Tales got lost in the mix.

That show ultimately ended up running during TWD's run, meaning that it wasn't held back to be a part of the franchise's wave of future shows. The retroactive single-seasoning of it reinforces that notion. And that, unfortunately, suggests that any show related to it in concept - including More Tales - would also face the same reality.
Of course, AMC could always surprise us with an update on it at San Diego Comic-Con this year. With Daryl Dixon ending with its fourth season and Dead City's future beyond season 3 unclear, the world of The Walking Dead needs a vision for the future. That starts with more shows. And maybe, just maybe, AMC will remember that they already had one in development.
