You never know where your favorite Walking Dead stars might pop up on TV. After being a part of one of the biggest TV franchises of all time, it's no surprise that so many of them are still entertaining us on the small screen (just as many continue to do it on the big screen, too). Heck, some of them are still a part of the TWD Universe, as Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride lead spinoff Daryl Dixon and Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan star in fellow spinoff Dead City.
Meanwhile, Jon Bernthal brought The Punisher back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe earlier this year for the critically-acclaimed Disney Plus Special Presentation, while Andrew Lincoln delivered in British thriller series Coldwater. Now, another beloved member of The Walking Dead cast has returned to the small screen in a gripping new drama.
TWD star David Morrissey is chilling in Channel 4's Tip Toe
David Morrissey may be best known to US audiences as The Governor in The Walking Dead but he continues to thrill audiences in the UK with his dramatic performances in various TV shows. His most recent outing, however, may be the closest that one of his characters have come to rivalling the Governor in terms of villainy. Needless to say, Morrissey is fantastic in the role.
That project is none other than Tip Toe. Written for Channel 4 by TV royalty Russell T. Davis, the five-episode miniseries stars Alan Cumming as Leo Struthers, a gay bar owner in Canal Street, who finds himself in an unexpected feud with his offensive neighbor (Morrissey), who judging by the trailer is extremely closed-minded when it comes to people in the LGBTQIA community. Things escalate very quickly, as you can see in that trailer below:
Channel 4 is no stranger to delivering powerful storytelling, with boundary-pushing television over the years such as Queer As Folk and long-running soap Hollyoaks making waves through the '90s and '00s, and it's clear that Tip Toe is the next one to do that. The series has received widespread acclaim, with UK TV viewers referring to it as a "masterpiece" and Empire Magazine awarding it five stars. The Guardian specifically praises Morrissey's performance, calling him "magnificent".
Tip Toe premiered on UK TV screens on May 31 on Channel 4, with the second episode airing the very next night on June 1. The next three episodes will air across three consecutive nights from June 7 - June 9. Both of the first two episodes are available to watch now on the channel's streaming on-demand service - also known as Channel 4 - while the latter three will instantly be made available on June 7. The show has yet to be picked up for broadcast in the US, but after the response - and the fact that it features two major recognizable stars to US audiences - it's likely only a matter of time. For Australia viewers, however, it can be watched on the platform Binge.
Morrissey has been a regular of British TV for years, but he has also appeared in US productions here and there, with Apple TV's Prime Target being the most recent example of that. Prior to Tip Toe, he also appeared on UK screens in ITV's Gone, for which he also received critical acclaim for his performance. Heading into Tip Toe with that level of buzz has created even more anticipation around what is shaping up to be of the most intense shows of the year.

The TWD veteran made his Walking Dead debut in the show's third season. The Governor was the big bad of that respective of season and it’s safe to say that he made one heck of an impact on viewers as many still consider him the best of all the show’s villains. The character would primarily be on-screens throughout that third season, but he did return for a short stint in the fourth season to wrap up his arc - where he launched the infamous prison siege against the heroes of the show.
Although the Governor had a relatively small amount of time screen time compared to other characters, there is no doubt that he has gone down history as one of the greatest TWD Universe franchise villains of all time. And Morrissey's performance is largely responsible for that.
To see him channel those intimidating depths again in Tip Toe certainly makes for a captivating performance.
