In 1996, Kevin Williamson and master of horror Wes Craven reignited the slasher genre with the first installment of the Scream franchise. The movie's success would encourage a string of sequel films and a Netflix series. Cast announcements continued to be released, which include several Scream veterans, and recently, a Walking Dead cast member's name was included.
Ethan Embry is well known for many roles throughout his career. His fans remember him for his role as Mark in Empire Records, which turns 30 this year, Preston in Can't Hardly Wait, TB Player in Tom Hanks' That Thing You Do, and Bobby Ray in Sweet Home Alabama. Some people may not know that he also appeared in a guest role in season 6 of The Walking Dead.

He portrayed Carter, a member of Alexandria who didn't agree with Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) style of leadership, believing he would get them all killed. He even staged a coup against Rick but failed. Eventually he sided with Rick and while checking on a herd of walkers is surprised by a lone walker and is bitten. As his scream begin to alert the other members of the herd, Rick stabs him to end his suffering.
Scream 7 cast
Deadline recently announced Embry's inclusion in the seventh installment of the Scream franchise that will be released in theaters on Feb. 27, 2026. Creator Kevin Williamson will direct Scream 7, featuring the return of many familiar names, including Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Scott Foley, Matthew Lillard, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown.
Embry joins several other newcomers to the franchise including sabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale and Mark Consuelos.
Principal photography for the film began in Atlanta, Georgia, on Jan. 7 with a working title Scar Tissue.
What else does Ethan Embry star in?
In addition to the above mentioned roles, Embry portrayed Coyote Bergstein in a recurring role in the Netflix series Grace and Frankie. The series focuses on the titular characters portrayed by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, who form an unlikely friendship when their husbands, Robert (Martin Sheen) and Sol (Sam Waterston) reveal they have long been in a relationship and want to become married.

Embry also starred in the 1991 John Hughes movie, Dutch, with Ed O'Neil. The story follows the snobish 13-year-old, Doyle Standish (Embry) whose mother (JoBeth Williams) begins dating a working man named Dutch (O'Neil). Doyle's father (Christopher Mcdonald) breaks their Thanksgiving day plans which gives Dutch the idea of picking the boy up fomr his private school to spend some time bonding with the boy. This turns into a wild road trip full of fights, misadventures, and more. The movie didn't fare well at the box office but became a cult classic after the home video release.
Recently, Embry has appeared in Damien Chazelle's First Man, and the Prime Video series Sneaky Pete. He has also had roles in blue Ridge: The Series, Gotham Knights, and Last Seen Alive. Next, he will star in two indie films, Alma and the Wolf and The Gymnast.
