The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead star Austin Amelio has booked his next big role. According to a report from Deadline, Amelio has officially joined the cast of FX's The Lowdown.
Amelio has joined the series in a recurring role with newcomers Tommy Lee Jones and Betty Gilpin. The trio will also join stars Ethan Hawke, Keith David, and other cast members whose characters lived through the events of the first season.
Production on The Lowdown season 2 just started this spring. The season is expected to premiere later this year on FX and Hulu, but the return date has not been announced yet.
We don't have details just yet about who Amelio will be playing in the second season, and we likely won't find out much until the season premieres. I'm sure it will be an excellent role, though, and Amelio will crush it.
The Lowdown will be Amelio's second TV series after his epic run on The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead after starring in When No One Sees Us. Fear the Walking Dead came to an end after eight seasons in November 2023. Following the success of the series, Amelio starred in several movies, including Netflix's Hit Man alongside Glen Powell and Family Movie directed by Kevin Bacon.
For those who don't recall, Amelio starred as Dwight in The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. Amelio joined the original series way back in 2015. His character, Dwight, was one of the Saviors, but he fled to Texas after Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his group took over. Dwight, then, crosses paths with the Fear the Walking Dead characters in season 5. He was part of the series through the final season.
Amelio is on the short list of Walking Dead franchise stars who have crossed over between The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. There are about a dozen characters who have appeared in both shows, but Amelio's Dwight is on an even smaller list of characters who appear in both shows and actually have a decent role in each series, along with Lennie James as Morgan, Christine Evangelista as Dwight's ex, Sherry, and a few others.
We'll share more updates about The Lowdown season 2 and Amelio's role in the series when we find out. In the meantime, you can watch The Walking Dead on Netflix and AMC and Fear the Walking Dead on AMC and Hulu!
Oh, and you should probably catch up on The Lowdown, if you'll be tuning in for Amelio, before season 2 premieres later this year. You can watch all eight episodes of the first season on Hulu right now.
