Walking Dead actor Michael Rooker voices character in James Gunn adult animated series Creature Commandos

Rooker is well known for his roles in notable roles like Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad.

Michael Rooker's latest role once again teams him up with James Gunn. Known for his role as Yondu in Gunn's Guardian of the Galaxy movies, Rooker now voices a character in Creature Commandos.

The five-part adult animated series premiered on Max in Dec. 2024 was written and created by Gunn. Dean Lorey serves as showrunner with Yves "Balak" Bigerel as supervising director.

Creature Commandos cast

In his guest starring role, Rooker voiced Sam Fitzgibbon, a military antique collector and member of a neo-Nazi group, in the third episode, "Cheers to the Tin Man." Main cast members include Indira Varma, Sean Gunn, Alan Tudyk, Zoë Chao, David Harbour, and Frank Grillo.

The series is based on DC Comics' black ops team of monsters assembled by Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) and led by Rick Flag Sr. (Grilo).

Creature Commandos is streaming on Max and will conclude season 1 on Jan. 9, 2025. Critics praised the series for Gunn's storytelling, the animation, and performances for which the series was then renewed for a second season. Creature Commandos is the first in the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

Rooker previously appeared in several of Gunn's movies including all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Slither, The Suicide Squad, Super, and Brightburn.

In 2023, Rooker made a cameo appearance as Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and starred in the Netflix original The Out-Laws with Adam DeVine, Nina Dobrev, Ellen Barkin, and Pierce Brosnan.

In 2024 he starred in Kevin Kostner's Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1. The film series is structured to consist of four parts with Chapter 2 rumored to be released in 2025.

Rooker voiced Yondu for several episodes of Marvel's What If...? series. Most recently in the third season episode "What If...Howard the Duck Got Hitched."
