Throughout the 12-year run of The Walking Dead, only four original characters survived: Rick, Morgan, Daryl, and Carol. Looking back at all the characters featured in season 1 brings much sadness, as the majority didn't survive. One season 1 character recently discussed how he would like his character to end.
During the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con event, actors and creators of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon appeared promoting the series' third season that will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on Sept. 7.
In an interview with Collider, which featured Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Scott M. Gimple, Greg Nicotero, and showrunner David Zabel, the group discussed the ending of the series and possible character endings.
Reedus, who has portrayed Daryl since the third episode of The Walking Dead, talked about being satisfied with what he knows about the Daryl Dixon spinoff's ending that will happen with its fourth season.
Here's what he told Collider about the ending he wants for Daryl:
"I've always said the same thing in interviews since day one. They say, 'How do you want your character to end?' And I've always said, 'He walks up a mountain, a little dog follows him up over the mountain, and he gets smaller, he disappears, and people go, 'Whatever happened to that guy?'' That's how I always wanted it to end. We talk about it all the time."
While he may be satisfied with this end, many Daryl fans will want more information if the plan is to never see the character again. This has happened with other characters from the main series and viewers are still demanding answers about where they ended up.
The third season of Daryl Dixon will see the continued stories of Daryl and Carol move from France to Spain, where it is described as taking on the feel of a Spaghetti Western. These are Western movies filmed in Europe by Italian filmmakers in the 1960s and 1970s. It will be an exciting change from the romantically picturesque backdrop of France, where the duo will encounter a whole new cast of characters.
Joining Reedus and McBride this season are Stephen Merchant, Eduardo Noriega, Óscar Jaenada, and Alexandra Masangkay. Additionally, Candela Saitta, Hugo Arbués, Greta Fernández, Gonzalo Bouza, Hada Nieto, Yassmine Othman, and Cuco Usín have been cast for season 3.
