Award-winning actress Rutina Wesley is remembered for her season 9 role as Jocelyn in The Walking Dead. She has numerous credits to her name, including Queen Sugar, True Blood, and more. In April 2025, Wesley will reprise her role for the second season of The Last of Us.
According to the Krewe of Muses website, Wesley has been named the 2025 Honorary Muse for the February 27 parade through Uptown New Orleans. The Krewe will celebrate 25 years this carnival season. The parade will be led by Wesley, who will ride atop the Krewe's iconic 17-foot-tall fiber optic encrusted red high-heel shoe float.
The Krewe of Muses prides themselves for being the first all-female Mardi Gras krewe to parade in uptown New Orleans at night. Their name comes from the Muses who represent inspirational goddesses of literature, science, and the arts of Greek Mythology. The Muses are an inspirational part of the carnival festivities who vision is to celebrate the artistic and cultural resources of the community.
Wesley had this to say about becoming the honorary Muse this season: “I am so honored to be receiving this big hug from the Muses. My time in New Orleans meant so much to me, and I have fallen in love with the city in so many ways. To say it is my favorite city in America is an understatement. I am humbled by the great women who have come before me and grateful to be the Honorary Muse for 2025. Let’s ride!”
Rutina Wesley in The Walking Dead
The Queen Sugar actress recently displayed her voice acting skills as Venus McFlytrap in the Monster High series. Walking Dead fans remember her role as Jocelyn, a college friend of Michonne (Dania Gurira) turned apocalyptic psychopath.
In episode 914, "Scars," of The Walking Dead, Michonne encounters Jocelyn who has experienced extreme trauma since the outbreak. Michonne allows Jocelyn and the children she cares for to live at Alexandria. This proved a poor choice, as one night Jocelyn and the children in her care, abducted Judith and some other children.
This eventually leads to a brawl between the old friend and a pregnant Michonne, who stabs and kills her. It was an incredible episode that showcased Michonne's badassery.
Wesley will return to season 2 of The Last of Us in her role as Maria, the wife of Joel's (Pedra Pascal) brother Tommy (Gabriel Luna). The new seven-part season premieres on HBO on April 13, 2025, with streaming available on Max.
