Right now, there's one particular The Walking Dead spinoff everyone's talking about, and that's because a new season just started airing on AMC. Daryl Dixon kicked off its highly anticipated third season with a real bang (seriously, that death was unexpected!), but another TWD spinoff also got to work on its own third season. Dead City fans finally have the update we've been waiting for!

According to WBZ News Radio, The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 began filming in Brockton, Massachusetts on Sept. 8, 2025 as the outlet shared a photo of the crew hard at work on set as production kicked off. The local radio station also revealed that the show's crew requested to shut down Frederick Douglas Ave. between 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for a full day of shooting.

Even though Dead City takes place in New York City, most of the sequel spinoff's filming has taken place on location in Massachusetts and the Boston area. In fact, after filming in Brockton, a city outside of Boston, production has also been said to take place in Boston this fall. Thankfully, the show has had a quick turnaround, which means the wait shouldn't be as long this time!

The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3 filming began in September 2025

Dead City was renewed for season 3 back in July 2025 shortly after the second season finished airing on AMC in June. The renewal wasn't a surprise since the show has been pretty well-received among The Walking Dead fans, though this spinoff didn't receive its renewal as quickly as Daryl Dixon did for its fourth and final season, which is also supposedly already in production.

This time around, the wait between seasons for Dead City should be the nearly two years it took between seasons 1 and 2. After season 1, the spinoff had to contend with setbacks and postponements in the wake of the actors' and writers' strikes that hit the Hollywood film and television industry for almost half a year. Following the show's premiere in June 2023, season 2 didn't arrive until June 2025.

But without delays, the series will be able to return within a year, and the fact that fiming has started that quickly after the renewal is a great sign. That's something Walking Dead fans should appreciate about the franchise, as the main series and spinoffs have typically always returned with annual seasons rather than making fans wait for years like streaming shows these days.

Even though filming has officially started on Dead City season 3, there's still a bit of a wait ahead for the episodes to begin airing. However, production should wrap before the end of the year, as season 2 filmed its six episodes between April and July 2024. That should allow for season 3 to again premiere sometime in the spring, perhaps in May or June 2026.
