Adapting video games for film or television has always been a tricky business. Some projects soar, capturing the essence of the game and thrilling audiences, while others stumble, leaving fans frustrated that their beloved worlds were reduced to clichés or rushed storytelling. Yet, even with this history of hits and misses, one game continues to command the dreams of both creators and fans alike: Red Dead Redemption 2.
The sprawling landscapes, morally complex characters, and heart-wrenching tales of loyalty, betrayal, and survival in the fading American frontier have made the game a masterpiece of modern storytelling. And for its devoted fanbase, the idea of seeing Arthur Morgan and the Van der Linde gang on the big or small screen is nothing short of exciting.
Unfortunately, an actual Red Dead Redemption 2 series or film adaptation hasn't happened yet, nor is one in the works. However, that hasn’t stopped actors from dreaming big. In fact, one fan-favorite Walking Dead star recently made headlines for revealing just how badly he wants a role in a potential television series adaptation.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan wants to play Arthur Morgan in a Red Dead Redemption 2 adaptation

It's really true, Walking Dead fans! Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who is best known for his iconic role as Negan in the zombie franchise, has just revealed that he would jump at the chance to play the main protagonist in a Red Dead Redemption 2 live-action adaptation.
This all happened at a recent convention where Morgan took part in a fan Q&A session. When asked if he’d be interested in portraying Arthur Morgan in a series adaptation, he didn’t hesitate. He shared that he’s a huge fan of Westerns and likes the Red Dead Redemption 2 game, before basically stating that playing Arthur would be a dream role for him.
“That’s the one I want to do. It’s not even a question. One, the only genre… My favorite genre is western and there’s not even a close second. And my son plays that game and it’s freaking awesome. In a heartbeat, I would do it for free.”
Honestly, I personally could see Morgan bringing Arthur to life perfectly in a live-action adaptation. With his rugged charm, commanding presence, and experience portraying morally complex characters like Negan, he has the charisma and gravitas to inhabit the troubled yet deeply human outlaw at the heart of Red Dead Redemption 2.
I mean, think about it. Can't you picture him as Arthur riding across the open plains with his gun holstered at his side? Or perhaps in tense standoffs or quietly sitting by the campfire? With Morgan in the role and the right creative team, the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 could finally come alive on screen, thrilling fans and bringing one of gaming’s most beloved stories to life like never before. Fingers crossed, an adaptation eventually comes to fruition!
