Walking Dead fans' favorite scientist, Eugene Porter, sported a unique apocalyptic look during his run on the show. Actor Josh McDermitt portrayed Eugene and now stars in Suits LA., with a completely different appearance. The actor recently spoke with toofab about the change and other tidbits about his role.

In early 2024, McDermitt was announced for the pilot episode of Suit L.A., a series that extends the Suits universe. He portrays Stuart Lane, who, 15 years prior, partnered with his old buddy Ted Black (Stephen Amell) to create the L.A. law firm, Black Lane Law. Lane is described as energetic, powerful, focused, and self-absorbed.

McDermitt is joined by fellow TWDU actress Maggie Grace (Al in Fear TWD), who appears in Suits LA a recurring role.

The series was created and written by the original series creator, Aaron Korsh who serves as showrunner for the nine-part first season. Victoria Mahoney directed episode one and executive produces with Korsh, David Bartis, Doug Liman, and Gene Klein, who also worked on the original series.

Suits L.A., the second spinoff of the original, premiered on NBC on Feb. 23 and will air the season finale on April 20. The series streams on Peacock.

In the interview with toofab, McDermitt talked about being very happy to have his own hair back and enjoys having a beard for the first time. He continued stating that he likes to appear different in each character he plays. He then jests, "Maybe next time, I'll shave my head...why not? Maybe I play a guy who's, I don't know, Lex Luther." This, of course, refers to his co-star Michael Cudlitz, who recently shaved his head for the role of Luther in Superman & Lois.

He was asked about his iconic look as Eugene in TWD and whether fans still recognize him with this more natural look. He told the story of when he filmed Mad Men episodes between seasons of TWD and returned to the series with blonde hair, and much of the cast were able to recognize him. Recently, several of the transportation guys on the set of Suits LA, who have worked with him all season, just realized who he is and are big fans of The Walking Dead.

He also talked about his dad, who, unknown to him, is a Suits superfan.
