Watch Walking Dead actress Eleanor Matsuura in one of the best series on Peacock in 2024
By Renee Hansen
Fans of The Walking Dead fondly remember Eleanor Matsuura, who portrayed Yumiko in the series' final seasons. Now, Matsuura stars in one of Peacock's best series of 2024, The Day of the Jackal.
Independent TV critic Nick Hilton compiled and ranked the 20 best TV shows of 2024. Peacock's original series, The Day of the Jackal, made the list at No. 10. The series, which premiered in Nov. 2024, has received critical praise and has been renewed for a second season.
The Jackal is a British series based on Frederick Forsyth's same-titled novel that also inspired Universal Pictures' award-winning movie in 1973. The series was adapted and written by Ronan Bennet, known for Michael Mann's 2009 movie Public Enemies. Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones, Luther, Boardwalk Empire) serves as the lead director with Anthony Philipson, Paul Wilmshurst and Anu Menon also directing.
The story follows the Jackal, a lone assassin, who earns his living by carrying out hits for the highest bidder. He has always been able to avoid capture but a new agent begins to investigate him and might become the key to his undoing. The Jackal is described as "a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe."
The Day of the Jackal cast
Academy Award-winning Eddie Redmayne portrays the ruthless assassin, only known as Jackal. BAFTA-winning Lashana Lynch plays Biana Pullman, the MI6 agent and firearms expert tasked with investigating the Jackal. Matsuura plays Zina Jansone, who works as a liaison between the Jackal and her employer, powerful financier Timothy Winthrop (Charles Dance).
Additional cast includes Úrsula Corberó, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Jonjo O'Neill, Nick Blood, and Sule Rimi. Richard Dormer appears as a guest star with Florisa Kamara, Kate Dickie, and Patrick O'Kane, in recurring roles.
The eight-part series currently airs on Sky Atlantic, Now, and Peacock with new episodes released weekly. It will conclude with a double-episode finale on Dec. 12.
Matsuura took to social media to thank fans for tuning into the series.
Matsuura has many notable roles to her credit including Into the Badlands, The One and Only Ivan, Feel Good, and my personal favorite, I Used to be Famous, a Netflix original that also stars Ed Skrein (All the Light We Cannot See) and Leo Lang (Professor T).
