What episodes of Stranger Things season 5 will Frank Darabont direct?

The Netflix original sci-fi series Stranger Things is a fabulous horror drama set in the 1980s. The coming-of-age story draws the younger generations, adding to that, the 80s nostalgia, and parents soon followed. This makes Stranger Things a series that has something for everyone. In 2025, the series will premiere its fifth and final season. The Walking Dead's original showrunner, Frank Darabont, came out of retirement to direct two episodes of the series because "Stranger Things has so much heart. That positivity is something I really responded to.” (via Deadline)

Set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, Stranger Things, created by The Duffer Brothers, tells of a community terrorized by creatures from Upside Down, an alternate dimension. The series gives Stand by Me vibes with the close-knit group of kids who search for their friend Will (Noah Schnapp), who has gone missing in the alternate world that was accidentally created by Hawkins Laboratory. They befriend Elle (Millie Bobby Brown), a young girl with psychokinetic powers who escaped the lab where she was a test subject. She aids them in finding their friend as they battle against the forces of the Upside Down.

Darabont ended retirement after more than a decade to work on the final season of Stranger Things, where he will serve as director for two of the eight episodes. He will direct episode 3, "Turnbow Trap," and episode 5, "Shock Jock." The Duffer Brothers will also direct this season with others TBA. Sean Levy has stated he will return to direct in the fifth season.

Darabont is no stranger to the horror genre, making him a perfect addition to this series' list of directors. He was The Walking Dead's original showrunner and wrote screenplays for several horror films, including The Blob, The Fly II, and A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. He is best known for directing the Stephen King adaptations of The Green Mile, The Mist, and The Shawshank Redemption.

Stranger Things season 5

The fifth season will see the return of a huge list of regular cast members: Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Cara Buono, and Jamie Campbell Bower. Amybeth McNulty, who plays Vickie, has been promoted to series regular.

Linda Hamilton has been announced as an additional cast member for the upcoming season. The Duffer Brothers are reluctant to add too many new faces for the ending of the series, Nell Fisher, Jake Connelly, and Alex Breaux have all been added. A casting call was announced for the role of Sara, Jim Hopper's late daughter, indicating more flash back sequences for this story. Sara was previously played by Elle Graham in season 1.

Fans are eager to see what's to come while also dreading the end of the series. It will no doubt be a spectacular end to a series that is dark, funny, emotional, and nostalgic.

Stranger Things season 5 will premiere on Netflix in 2025.
