Actress and model Christian Serratos is well known for her role as Angela in the Twilight saga films. She has also starred as Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla in the Netflix original Selena: The Series. Who did she play in The Walking Dead?
In season 4 of The Walking Dead, Serratos was introduced as Rosita Espinosa, traveling companion to Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) and Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt). The trio encountered Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Tara (Alanna Masterson) after the fall of the prison. Initially, Rosita appeared to be somewhat ornamental, but throughout her story, she became a valued leader and fierce warrior.
Rosita, like many others, suffered significant losses. Her greatest and most traumatic came when Negan brutally beat her former boyfriend Abraham (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). Negan then taunted her with his weapon, Lucille, covered in Abraham's blood and brains.
This event took Rosita down a dangerous path as she planned to kill Negan in revenge of Abraham's death. When that failed, she faced a turning point where she opted not to allow Negan to live rent free in her mind.
Christian Serratos asked for Rosita to be killed in the final season
Serratos shared her reasoning for wanting Rosita to die before the end of the series on Talking Dead. "And for me, as an actor, I wanted closure. I’ve been playing this character for a very long time, and I wasn’t going to see her ever again. So I needed that closure."
Her death was quite emotional as she was bitten while trying to rescue her baby Coco. She fell into a horde of walkers and appeared to escape unscathed. This wasn't the case. She would later reveal her bite and was able to say her emotional goodbyes to her family.
Many viewers who didn't think much of Rosita in the beginning would soon change their minds as her character transitioned in a strong, courageous woman.
