The Walking Dead: Three Funny Quotes

facebooktwitterreddit

The Walking Dead has many memorable lines and even individual words that have deep meaning, but some memorable lines come from their humor and surprise.

The Walking Dead uses humor in the way it should–deadpan! It blends it in beautifully and naturally and in a way that lightens things for the characters and the audience and lets us breathe but is not meant to be belly laughing.

I’m a huge fan of deadpan so I love it. Recently, we chose three of our favorite Walking Dead quotes, which got me thinking of chosing three of my favorite humorous lines.

GOOD THING WE DIDN’T DO ANYTHING STUPID LIKE SHOOT IT.

~T-dog

After discovering that the well was contaminated with a bloated walker, trying to lure it out with canned ham, lasso him using Glenn as live bait, almost losing Glenn, then realizing Glenn somehow managed to get the lasso around him, push and pull, lower and raise, yes, no, it’s gonna work, no it’s not.  Ew. Gross. Sigh. “Good thing we didn’t do anything stupid like shoot it. “

MAT SAID WELCOME

~Michonne

Rick, Carl and Michonne were on a gun run. We as an audience knew Michonne already from Andrea, but Rick and the group did not trust or know her yet. Her first indication to Rick to let go a little was when she told him, ” No, Rick, I don’t have a problem with that.” She was relaxing with him and telling him I’m not the enemy! Quit fighting me! Then when she was eating Morgan’s chips and Rick asked her if they were eating his food now, instead of getting defensive, she just shrugged and said, “Mat said Welcome!” That little joke was the turning point in Rick starting to trust her.

YO JC,  YOU TAKING REQUESTS?

~Daryl Dixon

At the beginning of the search for Sophia, at a time when you may not remember that you probably weren’t as in love with Daryl Dixon as you might be now.  For those of us who love Daryl, yes, there was a time that you didn’t love him, you just don’t remember or won’t admit it.

The church bells rang and we all thought that Sophia would be found. We never imagined her shuffling out of a barn weeks later after Carl would be shot and we would meet the Greenes.  When Daryl dead panned his question to the Jesus on the cross, we started to fall in love with our brother.

Humor is an important part of The Walking Dead.  It lets us breathe. It lets us digest some of the horror. It lets us get to know some of our family. Merle’s humor is an article of its own! Humor is a part of life and The Walking Dead is about survival. Surviving is living.
