The Walking Dead Season 7 has officially kicked off with the announcement of the premiere date and the official trailer. King Ezekiel has been cast and he was seen in the trailer!

We met a new character in the trailer for season 7 of The Walking Dead. If you haven’t read the comics or haven’t heard about King Ezekiel, Shiva and The Kingdom from a comic reader, you are in for a huge surprise!

I’m not a comic reader, but I know about all 3 of the aforementioned additions to season 7. According to The Walking Dead’s official website, Ezekiel was introduced in issue 108 of the comics.

Ezekiel, The Kingdom, and Shiva

He was a zoo-keeper before the apocalypse and is the “self-appointed king of a nearby survivor community known as The Kingdom.” The Kingdom was a high school and is guarded by men on horses that resemble knights.

We saw some of the men from the Kingdom in the season 6 finale when they came to help Morgan and Carol. I called them Don Quijotes. Apparently, these soldiers always guard the Kingdom and escort Ezekiel wherever he goes.

According to The Walking Dead website, Ezekiel has a “theatrical personality, a colorful starred shirt, white dreadlocks, and a loyal pet tiger, Shiva.” Also, he “doesn’t handle failure well.”

Khary Payton is our King Ezekiel. We have seen him now that the trailer has aired. There had been much speculation about who should be cast and who might be cast. But now we know. Khary is a Georgia native and has done extensive comic and video game voice work:  Cyborg in Teen Titans Go, Aqualad in Young Justice, Metal Gear Solid 4, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, and Batman: Arkham Origins.
